Thanks for the replies to my previous post! I've attached a labeled photo to better depict my problem. Question, is it possible to weld a new bolt to the block and then attach the plate with a nut and lock washer? (Sorry about my terminology - I'm pretty new to the tractor world) My other question has to do with the amount of stress at this point of the 3-point mechanism. I plan to rototill and use an auger for digging fence post holes so I am wondering if a weld can handle the stress. Thanks for your advice and a great forum.

Why not drill the bolt and remove w/ an extractor and replace w/ a new bolt? If that doesn't work, I would drill the whole bolt and re-thread.

There is obviously a lot of stress on that plate and the torque broke the weld on the lame 'fix'. Repairing the 'fix' isn't going to work.

My 2 cents worth ...

It looks like the block has been broken and the "fix" in for a good long time by the amount of wear on both of them. You said you bought the tractor from a landscaper so the previous fix probably got some heavy use. I think I might go with cleaning it up and "re-repairing" it and watching it closely - the worst that can happen is the fix breaks again.

Looks like now might be a good time to develop a relationship with your local machine shop. If you can get the machine to them, they will be able to give you a yay or nay on a good long term fix and a estimate. Can't really tell from your photos just how much is in need of repairs.

Now that your second photo cleared up the confusion - the bolt hole is unusable - I third, (or is it fourth) the idea that you should use the 8-bolt reinforced toplink bracket. It will just make your whole problem "go away" since you will essentially be anchoring the toplink bracket to some other very heavy duty locations! You could probably even get away with a 3ph mounted hoe if your did that/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif - assuming you added the other frame reinforcements required with the 4672!

Thank you all very much for the great advice. I just got off the phone with the Carver Parts dept and ordered the reinforced top link bracket. A very fine solution at a reasonable cost. Sure beats a $900 replacement of the top block.
