Kubota B2410
Hi all,

I've recently purchased a Kubota B2410 with only 140 hours on the clock. I'm over the moon with the tractor, it's great, but whilst I was trying everything out I've noticed that I cannot get the diff lock to engage. The pedal seems to be stuck, it just will not press down. I've tried turning with the tractor to get different wheel speeds, but this doesn't change anything. Am I doing something wrong?

Cheers.

You should engage the diff lock with the tractor stopped. If it doesn't press down, move forward slowly/slightly with the front wheels straight and try again.
If this still doesn't work, you'll need to investigate further.

I have a B2710, in addition to what the other poster said, you should not use the differential lock if you're turning. Do you have a user's manual? One of the suggestions it has if you can't engage the lock is to alternately step lightly on the brake pedals. I can't imagine what that can do, unless they assume the wheel(s) are turning at low speed and that will cause them to change their speed with respect to each other and facilitate the lock engagement. Although if the wheels are turning I'd need to use the same leg on the HST that I'd need to step on the brake pedals, and I don't have two right legs. I bought mine new about 6 years ago and haven't used it yet. I confirmed that it worked at the dealer, and haven't touched it since.

No I don't have a user manual, I've just ordered one though. I don't know how the Kubota diff lock works, but my mechanical knowledge presumes that there is some sort of peg to lock the diff gears. So working on that theory I very steadily turned to try and line them up. But nothing has changed no matter what I do. I've virtually stood on the pedal and it still doesn't move. My tractor has a cab which makes it difficult to see where the linkage goes to.

On my Kubota BX, the diff lock was very, very difficult and finicky to engage. I seldom used it, as it was only needed on one occasion anyhow. Just used 4x4.

It was much more zen than brute force. The Sun, planets, moon and stars all had to be perfectly aligned. Very, very touchy.

Congratulations on your new tractor.

Next time I saddle up I'll try it. I recall it being very easy to engage when I tried it new, just had to bump the HST a little to move to a spot where something was lining up.

I think your "new" tractor hasn't been used in conditions that required the Diff Lock. The pedal assembly is probably frozen. They push hard but not so hard you have to stand on the pedal.

I've been talking to a friend tonight who basically said to just try lubricating the linkages. But the linkages are difficult to get to.
The tractor has done a lot of standing in the last few years, and I would imagine the diff lock has barely been used. I will have another play tomorrow, see if I can get to the linkages.

Cheers folks.

In regards to the diff-lock, I'd say frozen linkage. I've owned the B2410 for just over 6 years now. Bought it new, absolutely love this machine. Mowing the lawn or dragging firewood out of the woods this tractor has never given me a problem. You made a great purchase.
