Kubota B2410
Hi all,

I've recently purchased a Kubota B2410 with only 140 hours on the clock. I'm over the moon with the tractor, it's great, but whilst I was trying everything out I've noticed that I cannot get the diff lock to engage. The pedal seems to be stuck, it just will not press down. I've tried turning with the tractor to get different wheel speeds, but this doesn't change anything. Am I doing something wrong?

Cheers.

You should engage the diff lock with the tractor stopped. If it doesn't press down, move forward slowly/slightly with the front wheels straight and try again.
If this still doesn't work, you'll need to investigate further.

I have a B2710, in addition to what the other poster said, you should not use the differential lock if you're turning. Do you have a user's manual? One of the suggestions it has if you can't engage the lock is to alternately step lightly on the brake pedals. I can't imagine what that can do, unless they assume the wheel(s) are turning at low speed and that will cause them to change their speed with respect to each other and facilitate the lock engagement. Although if the wheels are turning I'd need to use the same leg on the HST that I'd need to step on the brake pedals, and I don't have two right legs. I bought mine new about 6 years ago and haven't used it yet. I confirmed that it worked at the dealer, and haven't touched it since.

No I don't have a user manual, I've just ordered one though. I don't know how the Kubota diff lock works, but my mechanical knowledge presumes that there is some sort of peg to lock the diff gears. So working on that theory I very steadily turned to try and line them up. But nothing has changed no matter what I do. I've virtually stood on the pedal and it still doesn't move. My tractor has a cab which makes it difficult to see where the linkage goes to.

On my Kubota BX, the diff lock was very, very difficult and finicky to engage. I seldom used it, as it was only needed on one occasion anyhow. Just used 4x4.

It was much more zen than brute force. The Sun, planets, moon and stars all had to be perfectly aligned. Very, very touchy.

Congratulations on your new tractor.

Next time I saddle up I'll try it. I recall it being very easy to engage when I tried it new, just had to bump the HST a little to move to a spot where something was lining up.

I think your "new" tractor hasn't been used in conditions that required the Diff Lock. The pedal assembly is probably frozen. They push hard but not so hard you have to stand on the pedal.

I've been talking to a friend tonight who basically said to just try lubricating the linkages. But the linkages are difficult to get to.
The tractor has done a lot of standing in the last few years, and I would imagine the diff lock has barely been used. I will have another play tomorrow, see if I can get to the linkages.

Cheers folks.

In regards to the diff-lock, I'd say frozen linkage. I've owned the B2410 for just over 6 years now. Bought it new, absolutely love this machine. Mowing the lawn or dragging firewood out of the woods this tractor has never given me a problem. You made a great purchase.

I had been looking at these tractors for a while, and was just waiting for a decent one to appear with low hours. I've not had chance to put it to proper use yet, but I can see it's going to be a great machine.

1*Am I doing something wrong?
1*Yep i think .

I have a B2710, in addition to what the other poster said,
2*you should not use the differential lock if you're turning. .
2* turning and moving.

3*My mechanical knowledge presumes that there is some sort of peg to lock the diff gears. So working on that theory I very steadily turned to try and line them up. But nothing has changed no matter what I do.
4* I've virtually stood on the pedal and it still doesn't move. My tractor has a cab which makes it difficult to see where the linkage goes to.
3*The pedal doesn't lock anywhere .
Just like the breaks on a car the pedal don't lock down and the breaks release automatically when you take your foot off the pedal .
4*You don't need to stand on it.
The Diff lock will only only funtion when you have your foot on the petal .
Taking your foot off the petal realeses the lock.

5*I've owned the B2410 for just over 6 years now. Bought it new, absolutely love this machine. .
5*I was looking a a nice used B2410 and then went to a dealer to price one new .
That's when I spotted the new BX23 .
I didn't even know there was such a thing.
I'm sure I'd have loved the BX2410 just as much as I love my BX23 but i did not need that big of a tractor.

You should engage the diff lock with the tractor stopped.
6*If it doesn't press down, move forward slowly/slightly with the front wheels straight and try again.

6*Good suggestion .

My B2710 diff lock pedal was stiff/ difficult for a long time. Now with 550hrs on it the pedal is getting better. On mine I have found that at a complete stop you depress the pedal and it will go about 1/2 way down. just barely moving forward less than a foot aligns the gears in the diff and the pedal goes the rest of the way down. The diff lock gets used so rarely that it takes a while to get them sweet. By the way. I think the 2410,2710,2910 was the best little bugger ever made. My 2710 has been great and I still love it.

I haven't managed to get it to work yet, but I'm going to try lubricating the linkages when I get time. When I had a glance the other day it looks like it goes up under the cab somewhere. Is there an easy way to get to it anywhere?

If I could of found a B2710 in similar condition I'd of probably gone for one, but they're hard to come by here in the UK, and I've never seen a B2910 for sale here.

Didn't know you were from across the pond. When I bought mine, used prices were very high because the economy was still going strong. Those days are long gone, if I were buying today I'd sure go used. I've seen some fantastic deals on used machines.

Yeah I'm on the other side of the boating lake, ha ha. It made me wonder the other day, if I'll eventually say something that you guys don't understand. Where I live we have a certain broad accent, and with it we have many sayings etc, that people only 30 or 40 miles away don't understand.

I'm not sure what the exchange rate is, but I've been told this was a £16,000 tractor when new. I'd imagine you guys get it a bit cheaper across the pond.

I Don't recall having to do anything more than touching the Diff. petal with my left foot.

Had a chance to try out the Diff Lock on my BX1500 yesterday evening while backing up a steep wet soft spot.
The Diff Lock functioned/operated just as I described above and in post NO. 12.
