Yanmar 424
So I've been tractor shopping/researching the last few months and I've narrowed it down to either the Yanmar 424 or Kubota B2650. I've looked at other brands including LS, JD, Massey and Kioti but I want to stick with Japanese build/design and both Yanmar and Kubota have the best local dealer support. LS and Kioti are about twice as far away. JD is just too expensive.

Yanmar Pros: Better financing option (0% for 84 mo keeps payment low and wife happy). About $1500 cheaper than Kubota. I like the feel and layout of cockpit better on the Yanmar. Better loader control lever/setup. Better deals on slightly used units, but none near me that I can find.

Yanmar Cons: 2 HP less than Kubota, 2 speed range HST compared to 3 on Kubota, resale isn't as good only due to the brand recognition I would think.

Kubota Pros: 2 HP more than Yanmar, 3 speed range HST, Kubota name and resale value, telescoping 3 point hitch.

Kubota Cons: Financing is 0% but 60 months so payment is about $100 more a month, Loader control seems jenky that it is that long handle that goes under the seat, also seams easily bumped by a leg or boot.

I have 5 acres and plan on using tractor for about 4 acres of light pasture mowing with a light duty 60 in rotary cutter, doing landscaping, spreading gravel, building a BMX/Mt bike track, getting pallet forks for moving water tanks/limbs/trees.

I know I'd be happy with either one but having a hard time making a decision. I think if the Kubota had 84 mo 0% interest I think the decision would already be made and I'd be posting pictures of a new B2650.

This site has been great and I really appreciate the effort and time people put into their posts. The information is invaluable to newcomers and people trying to learn as much as possible before they spend their hard earned dollars.

I really love the 3 range hst. Gives you alot of options and they are set up very well. The loader lever works very well and is nice because it goes right to the loader valve. No cables to freeze up. It has a lever lock on it to lock it out if you want.I have over 640 hrs on my 2015 B2650 and it has been a flawless workhorse.

The boss may not approve but you could jump up to the new Yanmar YT235. Pretty sweet machine.

can not understate the value of the 3-range HST.

The long lever does catch my shorts if I try and jump off that side, but don't have problems with function.

I have a B2320... Nice little tractor, comfortable, and feels stable enough. It has hst, not my favorite, but works well, good power. I know what you mean on the fel control, I have hit it with my leg and it can be a problem. I have learned to watch out for that. Overall, I really like it for it's size.

Take into account dealer support. We had a Yanmar dealer in my town that stopped carrying them. They still show up on the dealer network site but they stopped stocking them. Kubota on the other hand has a lot of dealers in the area. Is the dealer presence is strong in your area and has been in place a long time, they might be O.K. For some reason, and I live in the middle of farm county, some of the lesser known brands can't break into the area, such as Kioti, Yanmar, Montana etc. I know they have a presence, just not a strong one.

I have a BX2370 w/90hrs. I find that I use low to fill the FEL bucket, then high to move. Wash, rinse, repeat. Feels like I'm switching all the time.

I don't "know", but I suspect I'd get a lot of use out of medium if that were an option.

I also wish I had the positional 3pt like the B01's / B50's.

I just looked at 424 last weekend in Washington state. Up here they do not have 0% for 84 months unless you spend over $20,000 to go through yanmar financing. 2016 models $15,500 here brand new cash price, $17,900 with 0%. 0% isn't really what it seems all the time, have them run the numbers both ways

I do not like that the 424 did not have a differential lock.

Sit on a Kioti CK 2610($17,499) they are just awesome, fits taller large framed men. I had not even planned on kioti but a dealer had me sit on them and drive it around and now it's definitely got me rethinking. $500 more than a LS xg3025 and way nicer in every way
Just my 2cents

Powerguy,
Yanmar SA Series tractors do have differential lock as standard equipment.

What varies is the installation (can be factory or field-installed) of the optional left-hand foot pedal to activate the differential lock. When the left-hand foot pedal is not installed, the differential lock can be activated by tapping the right-hand brake pedal. More about the Yanmar SA Series tractors' differential lock here: Yanmar Differential Lock - The Brake

An 84 month loan (ie, 7 years) seems ridiculous to me on something like this.
