Hi, I have a Kubota B2910 and I am new to HST tractors, although I've put in thousands of hours on gear tractors. When I try to climb a really steep hill with a five foot rotary mower, it will just stop and whine with the engine still revving nicely at 2600, where it was set (in low range, of course). Is this normal? Or am I expecting too much from 30 Hp? I am used to tractors bogging down (losing revs) or spinning wheels, but not just sitting there at full rpm. Thanks for any replies.

As you wrote you are in low gear.......tires should be spinning but I think it should not just stay there.....but ( what I red here on tbn) pushing hard on your hst pedal is not the solution because this way it will loose power ( like upshifting even in low gear, trying to go faster in his low range). try pushing your pedal softly. ( my tractor is a 1643 Massey and up to now never had that bad experience.....) the less you push you pedal, the stronger but slower you are, even with an HST.good luck. Roger

No, even with light pressure on the pedal, the tractor will just stop. It seems weaker in reverse, but that may be because the mower is more likely to jam against uneven ground. Is anything adjustable on the HST?

How many hours on the unit? New/Used owned for years? What kind/type hydraulic fluid, UDT, Super UDT or some other brand? When were the filters, (Both) changed? The 2910 was a strong unit in low and medium range.

No, it is not (normal)

This is not normal. I have the b2320 with backhoe and fel. I can carry pretty big boulders(900 lbs) up a steep hill. The tractor will whine a little bit but it does make it up with plenty of power. You should lose traction before the engine quits.

The tractor has about 350 hours. I changed the hyd and HST filters, cleaned the strainer screen, and put in new fluid (Traveller combination fluid from TSC) but it is the same. I've had this machine a few months and put maybe 20 hours on it.

Did this problem start after you put the new filters on or was it there prior to changing the filters?

edit to add: never mind...looks like you changed them and the problem was still there...my error

I think you have discovered why the previous owner is now no longer the owner. Hydro transmission repairs can be very expensive. I would discuss with a knowledgeable local tractor repair person and then evaluate your options on trade or repair.

Your first mistake was cheapo hydraulic fluid. Your second mistake is not loosing it pronto. UDT and SUDT isn't expensive for no reason.
