Does anyone know if it’s possible to remove the driveshaft from the engine to the trans without splitting the tractor. It’s hard to tell just looking at it and it doesn’t seem to talk about it in the manual. I’ve got a leaking seal and I’d like to know what I’m getting into before I start.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff are you talking about the front wheel drive shaft or the main drive shaft for the Clutch/HST? If its the main drive shaft and clutch, yes the tractor needs to be split.

Here's a link to the messicks part diagram Kubota B7500D (4wd) Parts Diagrams

The front drive shaft usually is removing the front axle without splitting the tractor.

If it has enough spline length on the shaft, it may be possible to slide the couplings back enough that the shaft can come out. After removing the roll pins on both ends.

Yes, it’s the main drive shaft from the clutch to the trans.

We were wondering if anyone had done this and found that there was enough spline on both ends of the shaft to sneak the seal out without splitting the tractor.

We initially thought it was the front wheel drive shaft that was leaking. Never occurred to me that you could remove the front end rather than splitting the tractor. Gonna file that away in my memory banks for later.

I split my sisters B7500 about 5 years ago.. Ill look through the pictures i still have and see if they job my memory.. I had to to a engine swap on hers and as I recall.. It took me a week on and off as I had never done it before.

Because my Kubota's get heavy ag useage, I regularly replace the soft spline coupling on the front driveshaft The coupling is a wear item versus the hardened splined driveshafts and I keep an extra one on hand at all times. You can tell when it's worn out as the feont will start making in ratcheting sound. Takes me about 30 minutes, start to finish.

As 5030 and PTSG point out it may be possible to remove the covers and drive out the pins in couplings and have enough wiggle room to pull out the front drive shaft, but if you have determined its in the main shaft, its splitting time.

Just take before pictures of the harness, connections, tubes as you disassemble, and get two sets of jack stands or a hoist to the rafter for the front half. Obviously remove the loader too, then roll the back half away from the front.

Not a hard job, but with patience and documenting the removal its easier to go back together. You might want to do the clutch plate while you are this far in too.

Front shaft is easy-peasy and both mine have geared transmissions and no clutch so I've never had the joy of splttimg either.
