Check back and let us know whether all is good or not after you diddle with the valve ;)

Interesting ... good to know

I'd assume that you've also seen it on B2910's as well, since they are the same powerplant/transmission/etc ?

Some...

I did in fact close the control valve below the seat. Huh, I dropped it off by the dealer this AM to have them look at it. I will stop by before they open and try the knob to see if that fixes it. It seems to hiss a bit when the steering gets hard . This maybe a relief valve I am hearing blowing off to soon,

All that valve does is reduce the speed of the 3 point drop. It does not effect the raise function.

Ok so the 3point is fine, I was able to lift a 1500lb quack digger of my grandfathers without a problem. As far as the steering, the dealer upped the pressure by 200lbs. It was a little on the low side. It helped a bit but did not solve the problem entirely. Any other cheap ideas I can try. Thanks everyone for your help!!

Good to hear

Not at all surprising I guess ... I just checked the hydraulic pressure on my B2910 recently and found it low by 200 psi ...

Shimmed both the PRV's for the loader and the 3PH ... difference was like night and day.

It helped a bit but did not solve the problem entirely.
What did the dealer say about that ?

Any other cheap ideas I can try.
Not much I'm afraid ...

Check tire pressure maybe ... make sure the tractor is moving before you try to turn the steering wheel.

Thanks everyone for your help!!
You're quite welcome.

The dealer said it is going to be as good as it gets without spending a lot of money looking into it. Boo.. Not sure what I am going to do with the tractor yet. Tire pressure is good and everything else is working great. Less than 300hrs.. Frustrating. I realize it is not a huge problem, but little things like this makes me want to send it down the road... Not sure where to go from here.. I will try parking facing down hill on my mound system to see if any air may be trapped.

There are two adjusting screws inside the power steering unit ... dunno what they adjust exactly ... and my Workshop Manual is up in the shop.

Something could be out of adjustment I suppose.

Your fluid seemed to be ok ... and wasn't showing any evidence of being cooked.

What was your basis for stating that the tranny was getting "hot" ?

Was it abnormally hot ?

If so, how could you tell ?

FWIW, I've spent pretty much all day in the middle of summer dragging a full box blade around ... and our B2910 is none the worse for wear.

The fluid I drained out was normal smelling. It looked fine. As far as my basis for assuming it was hot was simply I could smell hot hydraulic fluid as I was running it. I would get strong whiffs of it as I would drive. I am a heavy equipment operator by trade and have got my fair share of excavators, dozers, skidders, etc hot. Along with getting them hot is the smell of hydraulic fluid venting when hot. Any of the machines that I have got to hot in the past, the one red flag was the smell of hydraulic oil. Then of course keeping an eye on the gauges, the smell almost always in my experience corresponded with the temp climbing. Also the hydraulic fill plug was popped out an not seated with the o-ring. Vent plugged?

My unit tends to run pretty cool, if one is judging by the coolant temp gauge.

When I say cool, I mean that the needle on the coolant temp gauge rarely goes much above the "C" mark. Since you have essentially the same tractor, I'd say yours shouldn't either.

I don't know that I've ever seen the needle on the coolant temp gauge actually go above the halfway mark between "C" and "H" ... even doing hard work (box blading with rippers down) on a hot day. If it ever happened, it was probably while mowing ... due to:

One thing that will cause it to run hotter than normal is grass/debris clogging up the grill and side vents. There's also a screen that pulls part way out that has to be cleaned under the battery. Pull from the front, towards the front - it won't come all the way out though. Blow it off with compressed air.

Also the hydraulic fill plug was popped out an not seated with the o-ring. Vent plugged?
Interesting.

The actual vent - which is rubber - looks like a shepard's crook or staff ... and is located (on my unit - yours maybe somewhat different) under the seat, on the top right side of the rear axle case and towards the rear of the seat. Look for it ... with the seat raised from in front of the right fender. It's kinda hard to see because it's tucked down under some brackets for the seat/fenders/etc.

It's possible it could be plugged ... if a mud dauber got up in there or something I guess.

Mine had actually deteriorated and was falling apart ... something I discovered when I pulled the seat and some of the plastic trim to wash underneath it.
