Kubota B8200D -- am I giving it away?

A while back, there was a similar story posted here. Young couple starting out, little excess money to work with. A member here said they came to him and needed something, don't remember the details now. Ended up to be deep friends, almost like Grandkids.

I think in the long run, you did the right thing, and you’ll look at it as lesson learned, and get over it.

In my experience selling used equipment, there is no deal, until the particulars are discussed, and a handshake seals the deal.

I once sold a 36 inch brand name flail mower for $300, only to see if resold 2 days later for $685. It happens to the best of us.

Yea, guy bought my old truck and flipped it. But I got almost I wanted.

From what you posted, I got the impression you agreed to let him change the fluid to see if that got hydraulics operational. I never saw where you agreed to $3500.00

Well, all I gotta say. . . It would have been better if the money came in a brown lunch sack, and he brought you some chocolates as a bonus🤣🤣🤣. You did a good thing. Well Done.

So, this could be handled either way. But I think your conscience is guiding you in the right direction. Before he laid a finger on it, I would have said “look, if we get everything operational, then the price is x.” His low ball and your honesty about the condition gave him an opportunity to buy it low - and assume risk. A perfectly good tractor isn’t typically sold for low ball amounts. But with problems, and problems you yourself were not sure could be fixed easily, means you were entertaining the low ball offer or you wouldn’t have let him come to see it. Did you expect him to see it and offer more? You letting him work on and fix it reduced his risk of purchase. And it made you see there was more value in it. If your wife didn’t want you to sell it and you yourself didn’t want to sell it, you should have never even called him to come look at it.
But that’s all water under the bridge. Now it’s working and you have got yourself in an uncomfortable situation. So the conscience becomes your guide. That my friend is what should guide you. I think this is a learning situation for you both. I would likely let the young fella know that you are going to honor the price, but make it clear that this was NOT an agreed upon deal. And that future purchases may not go that well for him. If it makes you feel better, tell him you are giving him a good deal because you are a good guy, and that maybe one day if you need a little help, he could give you a hand - or a little tractor help. Like others have said, you may spawn a nice little relationship that can pay you back much more down the line.

I've had a B9200 hydro for several years now and would be hard pressed to let it go. Seems like they are just bulletproof.
