Hi -- I know this question has been asked a lot so I apologize in advance for adding to the frequency.

I have a Kubota 5040HDC with backhoe and brush hog and loader. It's great but too big for simple mowing.

I am looking for something with a mid deck mower plus a FEL for "light duty". Big need is good quality mowing in fairly tight spaces around my farm / camp.

I am committed to Kubota because of their quality and I have a nearby dealer who is awesome.

What should I be looking at? B or BX? which models?
What's the difference between B and BX lines?

thanks.

Josh,
IMO, go with the B2320 & turf tires. This would be the most "nimble" setup in the B line (and least expensive). Especially since you are downsizing from a much larger tractor. The floating MMM would seem better for your described uses rather than the style deck offered on the larger B3200/B2620/B3030. The hydraulics are better on the B20xxseries with no transmission fan worries of the BX. If you have a dealer nearby go look...the differences are pretty apparent.

Yes, my vote is also on a B2320. My neighbor got one last year and it does an excellent job maintaining his lawn (RFM) and the 3 range transmission allows more versatility for when he uses the FEL.

I have a 2320 with bar turfs. Got the B over the BX mainly because of no hydro fan to worry about and wanted a little mire clearance. The 2320 is very nimble and the turning radius I much better than I thought it would be.

Having said all that if I was only going to be mowing the lawn and not doing any other off lawn work then I'd look at the BX

Coming from a larger tractor, I agree, you'd find a B2320 a big step down in size. The B2320 is incredibly nimble and would likely be darned handy for what you describe. The largest of the BX's, the 2660, wouldn't save you but a few hundred dollars, if any.

The decision has to be based on need for more or less ground clearance, imho. Drive a 20 series B and a BX and get a feel for the difference. They are both solid machines.

I wrote a little compare/contrast here: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/.../185147-bx1860-vx-b2320-contrast-compare.html

Perhaps you'd read something that gives you something useful.

I don't think the OP was getting rid of his bigger tractor just wanted something smaller to mow and do yard chores with.. I have the B series and think it would be too big for "tight" mowing,, Not sure about the Bx's I use a g1800 on my 3a of lawn,,

If you are keeping the other tractor, go with a BX, if not, go with the B.

We used a combination of L5030 and BX2660 on our place. I did look at the B, but wanted something just a bit smaller and more nimble.

I'll second TripleR's comment about the BX. We likewise have been using a larger machine and a BX for light work for several years now. The combination has worked out great. The BX excels at close quarters operation and mowing while the L4610 does the heavy work. BX has been very versatile... it's the "go to" machine for all kinds of miscellaneous chores. Just as an example, the FEL on a BX won't dig like a bigger machine, but it's great for clearing spoils from the backhoe on the larger tractor and filling in trenches.

We've had the BX for 6 years and so far have not had problems with the hydro fan... we avoid tall brush or driving over saplings, etc.
