Hi guys: I found a BX2200, 4WD with a 54" belly mower for $9,995 with 24 hours on it (from a dealer). Is that a good dealer or should I look around for a better deal? It seemed like an okay deal not a great deal. Need help input

Thanks
Mike

I haven't a clue as to what today's going prices are for the BX (I negotiated for mine pre-release, in December of 1999), so maybe some recent New England purchaser can chime in. Question: What price does the same dealer want for a brand new one? That is, what discount are you being offered for the 24 hours? Now, 24 hours ain't nothing over the life span of a tractor (still brand new)…. But… I would have to be offered some type of incentive to purchase it. If you do decide to go for it, keep in mind that the first maintenance interval is coming up fast (at 50 hours). It is a critical period, where the fluids should be inspected for nasty items (like overt metal shavings). I myself (due to criticality of the work and my own schedule at the time) had the dealer perform the maintenance. Cost me $232 (OUCH! /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif}.

So this is what I would do. Find out what the same dealer wants for a new one. Talk to least one other dealer to get their price (always worth getting a price from Carver's). Determine if the 24 hours is worth in. Then negotiate, as a bonus, that they will perform the 50 hours maintenance (when it arrives) for free. I wouldn't recommend letting them perform the maintenance now, it is too soon to allow time for all possible intolerances to manifest. (Not that I have ever read of any problem regarding Kubota factory assembly, but might as well reduce your risk whenever you can). Good luck.

The dealer wants $10,500 for a new one. Now that you have given me some answers. I think I might go up to New Hampshire again and see what dealers are up there because of the no sales tax issue (where is Thomas when you need some dealer info :).
Some dealers are WAY out in left field and some are pretty good. The kicker is do I really need a 4X4 and a FEL or am I waisting $$$$$$$ . This is not for a farm, but my home. I just keep buying bigger and bigger toys and the wife is getting pissed! First it was a small truck then a F350 Powerstroke. Man, life would be much easier if you have more money (just for a tractor of course). Thanks guys

Thanks
Mike

Mike; I had shopped, researched, test-drove, received written price quotes, etc. for two years…. Looked at both GT's and compacts. I decided that if I bought a sub-compact or compact, I would also get the FEL. I really didn't see much use for it at the time, but here were my thoughts:

1) Research led me to conclude that with a FEL, eventual resale would be easier, and a positive payback. I convinced my wife (a CPA, so I always have to prove a pay-back) that even if I rarely used it, the original purchase cost would be returned upon eventual sale (10 to 20 years down the road).

2) If I didn't have the implements, why buy the tractor? If I were only to cut grass, then a ZTR would have been a better choice. (Heck, my JD 170 cut it fine for 11 seasons. So, I really didn't need anything else).

Now I am going to throw all that out the window. Since I have one, I have used it. You will find things to do with it, guaranteed. I have never seen posted 'my FEL was a waste of money'. Have seen posted 'looking to add a FEL to my…" and 'I love my FEL'.

Mike,
Along with Kubota, we also sell Cub Cadet garden tractors and I look at it this way. The Cub Cadet 3235 is a 23 HP gas tractor with a 60" deck that sells for roughly $7,900. If you were to add a cat “0” 3 point hitch to it you'd spend $8,500. With the BX you get a cat “I” 3 point hitch, 540 rear PTO and mid PTO plus 4 wheel drive and the ability to add a loader. Plus it's a diesel which will burn less fuel and have a significantly longer life than a air cooled gas engine. - In all, $9,995 for a used BX or $10,500 for a new one is a much smarter investment than an ordinary garden tractor even if you don't get the loader to go with it.

Okay. Now the problem is where do I get the best deal? I found a dealer in New Hampshire that wants $10,520 for the tractor and 54" mower. Plus no sales tax!!! I think that one is a go..

Thanks
Mike

burnickas,
"where is Thomas when you need some {dealer} info"
Yep thats what I hear at work lot..well as my co worker would say, check for him at the coffee pot, machine shop, giving a researcher an chewing out or checking out some tractor **** stuff.

If you plan on a FEL you should consider 4wd,also 4wd comes in handy if your mowing a slope thats damp.

I know you are wanting to get the best deal you can, if you by a new or used tractor do consider the dealer and what kind of service you will get from that dealer. Remember you are buying a tractor not a car and look at how far you may drive to obtain service from the dealer you purchased your Kubota. Carver is a bit far to obtain service if you live in New England.

As with the tractor with 24 hours, you do not need any service for another 26 hours and for the cost that was talked about, for most people this will occur at this level only once. After this 50 hour service you will only need to service the engine oil at 100 hours and the transmission at 500 hours.

This price sounds pretty good, find out why this dealer has this BX with 24 hours, see if the dealer will let you call the previous owner.

Took delivery of a BX2200 in mid Jan with 60" deck and the FEL. Total cost was $12000. That was a new unit. Course that price is in Ohio, so it may not compare with New England pricing, but there you have it for comparison.
