Kubota BX2230 vs. BX23 vs. something different

If down the road you decide you really do need a larger tractor you will be able to sell or trade the BX and get decent $$ for it so you pretty much can't go wrong.

This is probably the tie breaker. You know for sure where you are now. You know where you MAY be in the future, but you are not there yet.

The BX23 is a fine small tractor. Jim is right, if you would trade it in later, or sell it by yourself, you probably won't lose too much.

Buying to match what land you have at the moment is probably very good advice...

(I still really don't like the BX 3PH much though... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif )

Curtis...your situation is very similar to mine and I made the same choice, except I was looking at a JD790 alternative. I probably bought one of the first BX22s in SOCAL, Aug02. No regrets. I needed a tractor that would fit through 46in openings in stone walls, move nimbly about in horse stalls, and retire my back from digging duties. Its done all that and much more. The JD 790 is a fine machine but too big for my purpose and much more $$$ with hoe.

Henro makes good point about 3PH armspan...it is less than standard and can create issues with certain attachments. Clearance could be a problem with uneven terrain, tho not in my case.

Get the bigger alternator, put some lights on it, add a toothbar, and tractor to your hearts content. My neighbor has a JD310E commercial backhoe and is ALWAYS borrowing my Kub for work in tight areas. He's buying a 23 for his landscaping business (cause I won't sell him my 22).

Best thing to do is try not to rush. If your patient the deal will come to you. Perhaps something on the used market in the BX23 catagory. Maybe you can go outside the 3 dealers area and find one, then perhaps work the delivery into the total price. Most dealers should be able to locate one somewhere in the national system and work on getting it to you.
I recently purchased this 2004 with 82 hours on it and the dealer threw in the 60"MMM for 15,200. Its not brand new and has some lite surface rust on some of the welds, but its not 17,000 +tax either.
This guy needed money as he was past due in child support, however I had to deal with the middleman...yes the dealer beat me to this poor gentleman, but hey, thats how I got the new MMM.

As the sign in the salvage yard says..... "Everyone drives cars with used parts.". You got a good deal on your tractor and the dealer made a few bucks on the sale. You know that if you have a problem, that he will take care of it. If you purchased directly from the original owner, the dealer might not be so willing to give you fast service during the busy season. Dealers serve a purpose and earn there money. Some try to get wealthy on every sale, lucky for you, he isn't one of them... Junk.......

Thats good to hear, when I looked at it , it was in a warehouse with no lighting, and didn't get back to see it because it was far from home and I'm working 70 hour weeks. When I saw some of the rust, I was a little dissapointed I didn't see it beforehand, so I wasn't sure about the good deal or not. Without the deck he wanted 14500, with the deck I got him to 15200. I thought that was fair for both of us. He delivered on 3-5 and I still have not recieved the warranty papers yet. But all in all I'm happy, just have to get laid off so I can do some cleaning, painting and of course maintenence.

I placed my order for the BX23 last night. The Kubota financing is already approved and I am good to go. Should be taking delivery somewhere around the end of the month but will know more on that today.

Will post pictures once I get it...

Congratulations on the BX23 - you will really like it. One other thing I would recommend along with the toothbar for the FEL is to get the rear tires filled for extra ballast. I got mine filled by the dealer before I even picked up the tractor and I believe it really helps stabilize the tractor. There has been a few times when I really expected the thing to tip over and it didn't and I attribute that to having the weight in the tires. If you do decide to get the filled use "beet juice". It is non-corrosive to the steel rims and it does not freeze.

OK, what is "beet juice"?

1.) Organic, veggie type beverage.

2.) A concoction derived from the juice of sugar beets used to fill the rear tires of tractors to increase weight and improve stability. Also known as Rim Guard.

How does one get it into the tires /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif? Is this something you can do yourself?
