Well here's an update at my end. I really thought my radiator was clean, But there was some buildup when I looked again, which I was able to clean off real well with a shop vac hose, without taking the battery out. Not taking the battery out is NOT a big deal, but I just didn't need to.
One thing I did differently this time was I took a paint brush and some detergent and really scrubbed the perforated cover through Which cooling air flows into the radiator. In the past I have just sprayed it off with a water hose, but I noticed there was a dusty build up on the surface and wondered if there could also be some buildup reducing the diameter of the little holes in the cover.
After doing these two things my temperature gauge now is running about one third up, after cutting grass for an hour or two on an 85 degree day. This is a little lower than last time when I did a complete cleaning of my radiator, using a mild detergent to eliminate oil that had saturated the radiator after I had a hydraulic hose failure in the steering circuit.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is: Don't assume that the perforated cover through which the air flows into the radiator is OK. There is a chance that each hole in that cover may have a little bit of build up on its interior edge which might be causing a reduction in airflow to the radiator. My gut is telling me that in my case there was a bit of restriction and my cleaning it with detergent and the paint brush made a difference.
No way to know for sure but I'm happy to see my temperature indicator showing a lot lower than it used to!
