Nope. No attempt to "protect", as in shield, the bottom of the HST, nor the filter. Just a pretty good fan protector. Imagine doing nothing risky that would put the HST case/filter in jeopardy and then, a lousy stick, a broken HST fan, and a huge bill for that? That stinks. This is addressed by the update. Hoorah!!

No question, absolutely none, that Kubota was trying to provide a skidplate. For those who wish that level of protection, this isn't it. But given what Kubota did in the past? Not bad. Not bad.

Yeah, I think Kubota clearly reads these boards considering they did add this fan protector, put a real parking break on the latest BX's and addressed the abrupt stopping in reverse on the 60 series BXs. When you think about it, these tractor forums are better than any customer focus group and cost them nothing but an internet connection. Kudos to them for monitoring for major design issues.

I somehow had this feeling too. ;)

Neil,

I think that we all owe a little thanks to the many dealers that have helped convince Kubota that things like this guard, the seat issue, etc. need to be addressed. When that input agrees with what is said here, it makes a strong case.......... thanks.

Messicks

The parts diagram, as shown, is graphically a depiction of the old HST guard.
Just saying. No big deal, but it is not an accurate depiction of the new part.

Kudo's to Kubota. This newer one is much better than the previous which was way better than the original, which was none..... :D

But, be cautioned not to get a false sense of security with it. You still need to be cognizant of the situation your operating in. A damaged and leaking HST oil filter will do far more harm to an HST than a damaged fan will......
I run a home made steel skidplate whenever I operate without the MMM installed and on two occasions twigs have still managed to make their way up to the fan. Luckily on both occasions the twigs only made a noise and did no damage. Admittedly I was doing some serious grubbing with debris laying all around. As hoped, the skidplate has thus far kept the big stuff away from the vulnerable vitals.
Theres been times when I've run for hrs with the skidplate installed and so far I've not encountered any HST overheating issues or any other issues for that matter, for well over 5 yrs and 400+ hrs. I also like the idea that the HST filter that hangs down in harms way has some steel between it and the whatever lurks on the ground below it :D

IMHO, if one is going to operate in an environment where the BX is traversing over and around scattered debris sans the MMM, you absolutely NEED the protection of a skidplate.
