Kubota has upgraded HST Fan Protection

Hello all, the skid plate looks serviceable but everyone I see on the tractors, they all have an intact fan.
What is involved with swapping a fan with no fins on to a new fan with all the fins. I'm mechanically inclined and have a full set of tools but after looking at this set-up last night can't cipher an easy swap.
Thanks for any input.

I've read of two basic approaches, one being a short cut to cut the new fan in half, then secure it back around the shaft with epoxy and self tapping screws I think. The other is to loosen the engine mounts enough to move the engine forward after unbolting the drive shaft at the HST, then slip the old fan off and new one on. Again, this is from reading - haven't done either but did buy a Bro-Tek rear skid plate so I (hopefully) won't have to.

Forum search should turn up lots of info.
Here's what I did.

Just ordered the last Kubota updated fan guard (K2661-21212)in the states from TractorSmart.com is your online source for Kubota online parts.. Called 5 dealers they were the only one to know exactly what I was talking about. They got the last one out of Texas, everyone must be ordering them I guess.

What puzzles me is the I had to wait for my 1860 to be delivered (Oct. '09)to my local dealer here in NJ. Mine did not have any guard on it. The dealer told me it was new production, I guess, not new enough to have the guard. For all the good things regarding Kubota sometimes it boggles the mind on how the simple things get overlooked.

Walldroff Farm Equipment in Watertown NY has a shipment of the new protector plates arrive yesterday. I picked up one for my BX2350. About $48 with tax and shipping.

If I were to be using my unit in more harsh surface conditions, I'd go for the BroTek skid plate. My hope is that I'm not sorry later for not spending the extra money (okay, nearly four times the money). Time will tell.

Chris,
I have a BX22 & was mowing on flat ground & a stick ran up over the 54" MMM & into the HST fan. Stripped all the blades off. The fan was $1.98 from my local dealer, but the labor to replace was $673.48  I bought the part & read what the manual said to do. Basically you are breaking the tractor in half just to get to the HST. Major PITA, BUT you can get the drive shaft out without unbolting the engine or the transmission. It isn't easy, but it can be done. I haven't gotten a plate from Bro-Tek yet but it is on the spring list along with a thumb.
T-Man.

Yeah, I think Kubota clearly reads these boards considering they did add this fan protector, put a real parking break on the latest BX's and addressed the abrupt stopping in reverse on the 60 series BXs. When you think about it, these tractor forums are better than any customer focus group and cost them nothing but an internet connection. Kudos to them for monitoring for major design issues.
Oh yeah!!!!!"a real parking brake"......Is that little left foot angled rod a "real parking brake"??? It seems quite subtle for such a function. I try to eyeball it when I dismount; but I'd rather set something more obvious than that. Thus when the BX2660 is parked (on a slight incline) for the day, I put a rock under the back wheel just to make sure. I'd hate to find it in the gulley the next morning.:(

Got a response today direct from Kubota

There was a change in the fan guard, there is a Serial Number break, the
new fan guard is slightly larger and will fit the older machines. There is
no provision to provide this for free, you can purchase it from your
dealer.

Part number for the new guard is K2681-21212

This DOES NOT fit the BX2200. If anyone knows better, please correct me. I bought one, but could not install it. Not a big deal, and I ain't crying about it, but it would be lazy and careless of me not to report that back for the benefit of others.

Thanks, EE_Bota. I had considered ordering one for my BX2200. Fortunately, I have been too busy/lazy to do it.

Just managed to brake off all the fan blades on the hst fan. (very poor design!) Went to Kubota dealer and ordered the part for less than $7. Now they wouldn't give me an exact figure on how much it would cost to replace it. They said maybe an hour or two at $65 an hour. Not too bad, but tractor is less than six months old and 48 hours on her. Does anyone know how to replace one of these?
