All Interested Parties,

Going by MChalkley (since the service guy at Carver didn't answer my question yet) his L recorded one hour on his meter for 77 minutes of operation at 1700 rpm, that equals 130,900 revolutions. My TC18, per the "detailed" manual says that it records one hour for operation at 1833 rpm, that equals 109,980 revolutions. Someone out there is a retired mathematics prof, feel free to check/correct my math.

One question, what is a Kubota's pto rpm? My TC18 reaches pto speed at about 2450. Assuming a comparable pto speed, I would operate for about 45 minutes to record an hour and Mark could go about 53 minutes before an hour was recorded.

I'll wait to make any qualitative comparisons until some of you Kubota guys report your pto speeds. It would be nice if several of you B owners report yours and TC or Deere owners too.

PTO speed is 540 on Kubota and every other tractor except those that have 1000 rpm for PTO speed. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Guess what you really wanted to know was ENGINE speed at 540 pto. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

It is 2295 on 4700 and 5400. I believe it is a little lower (around 2200) on the 6800 but none of this matters.

The reason hour meters are set up this way is that nearly all AG tractors run at PTO speed most of their life. Since there is nothing on a tractor that is synchronized to WWV (time), the speed of the tach at PTO speed is used to approximate hours.

If a manufacturer set his hour meter up for a non PTO speed, then once again he screwed up.

Tractor HP ratings that are above PTO speed are pretty useless numbers also - and Kubota does this hoping someone is impressed. I'm not, but I love my Kubota anyway - in spite of some marketing genius that thinks up these really dumb ways to specify things. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My B2710 manual says PTO speed is 2584 RPMs, and the sales brochure says it's "rated" at 2600 RPM, so that's not much difference in the "PTO speed" and HP rating speed. I believe wide open is about 2800 RPM.

On the B7100 the rear rpm on the safe side would be 540rpm.
The middle 2453 rpm.

on my L3750 I have a two speed pto 540--2243rpm pto 750--2391---so at 2243rpm thats 37.4 r/s wow.

PaulB,

Does your manual state if one hour is recorded for every hour at 2600 rpm? Or can you approximate based on your use?

I'll admit, I don't know why New Holland uses 1833 rpm for one hour? /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Maybe someone figured that was the average rpm per hour for the way that a TC18 is used? When I mow lawn with my rear finish mower I'm at 2450 rpm for over an hour but when I use the rear blade or the rear scoop, I'm probably closer to 1800 or so. I don't know what rpm the engine has to be for a belly mower either?

Thanks for your response, JimBinMI
