Thank all you guys for the help. I think we will go with the 3200 with HST. I'll pass it on how it goes. Jim

You are so old....... you were around when 'Old Spice' was just called 'Spice' ! ;)

.... and "AXE" was called Hai Karate.

I have both, HST is the smaller tractors(B21, B2710), shuttle shift in the bigger ones (M5040 w/ FEL, M9540).

HST is great for mowing where you need to slow down to maneuver, such as trimming around the yard. It's also great for going slow at high rpm such as running a tiller. For mowing in open fields, the gear transmission is fine.

BUT, in a smaller tractor, the HST robs a lot of power IMO.

Yes, if you are doing a lot of loader work, HST is probably better since you can rev up the engine (and hydraulics for operating the loader) while moving slowly.

I don't see a problem "riding the clutch" when you are backing up to mount an attachment. The clutches are wet and designed for that type of service. Of course, keep the tractor at idle when doing so.

In nine years I've bought 13 Kubotas, twelve of them having HST. My last purchase, number 13, was a B2320 geared to save money. I'll never buy another geared tractor and absolutely would not if it has a FEL that's used for more than to carry trash cans down to the road.
Have never had any problems with any of them getting hot and losing power or any problems with any of them in any way.

you cant go wrong getting the HST.im surprised you havent burnt out a clutch since yall have a tendancy to ride the clutch.

Depending on the size tractor, it can be an easy $3-4000 extra, plus more maintenance expense. Unless really abused, I doubt that many of us will ever wear out a clutch on these tractors.

That, and if everybody read jimbobs61's followup posts, they'd realize he only rides the clutch when reversing to an implement.

well you burn 1 clutch out of a tractor an youll have lots of fun replacing it plus spend $1000 to $2000 on it.plus youll have bust the tractor in half.

Some of us probably have different definitions of "riding the clutch". I think both types are very reliable.

I wouldn't have another gear drive if it was given to me. I'm a light to medium duty user and the ease of an HST is just hands down better. Front end loader work is so much easier, as well as getting in and out of tight spaces is so much easier when you're mowing, plowing tilling, etc.
