I have'nt had the L3000F too long and recently noticed that
steeping on the brake while driving in any gear without
using the clutch gets no response. If you use the clutch with
the brake as you normally would the brake seems to work alright, but I would expect that if you hit the brake alone you should get some response, such as slowing down some and
the engine stalling. I realize with the engine in gear and running its overpowering the brakes and not going to come to a smooth stop, but should'nt I get some response. If anybody
has a similar experience or can shed some light on it, I'd
appreciate it. Thanks.

Now I'm not really familiar with your model, but like you, I've never driven a tractor on which the brakes did not work all the time, whether you step on the clutch or not. You sure make me curious about that, since I can't imagine what causes it, but do think something must be amiss.

Something's not right. Regardless of what model it is, stepping on the brake should stop the tractor.

It sounds like the brakes are not working properly and cannot effectively even slow down the tractor when it's under load (in gear). When you step on the clutch you are essentially taking it out gear (no load), allowing the brakes to have some effect.

Don't know how new/old your tractor is, but what you've described can be anything from misadjusted brake linkage to low reservoir to leakage to worn out brake shoes. If the brake pedal is firm with no effect I would suspect something in the linkage or worn out components, including a faulty master cylinder. If it slowly sinks with foot pressure, then you have a leak somewhere.

The L3000F has mechanical wet disc brakes, I would think that you have some linkage problems. Proper brake pedal free travel should be .8 to 1.2 inches. There are turnbuckles under the operator's platform to adjust this free travel. Be sure to keep the free travel in the right and left brake pedals equal.
