Funny thing is the day started as a quest for a new bushog for my Ford 2n.

Dad said he would buy my Wife and me one for Christmas.

We have about 52 acres behind his weekend house and pond ( he has about 19 acres ) so really he wanted to use it for himself !

Anyway,I told him that I had planned to buy a newer tractor with a front end loader in 2009 but the economy went south so I was waiting until later this year or maybe next year.

As we were looking at the John Deere place, he said that he will go in half with me on a new one since Deere had some 0 % financing !

Well, we looked the the Deeres and then decided to go look at Kubotas.

I am glad we did !

The Deeres look like very good tractors and I am sure that we would be happy with one but I was really impressed with the Kubota.

The only thing I have to decide is whether to go with a hydro or gear tranny.

I have never driven a hydro tractor ( got a hydro lawn mower and love it ) so I just need to try one out and decide.

Kubota had 0 down and 0 % financing for 60 months but it ran out on 12/31.

Just waiting to see what they offer now.

You guys are great and obviously love your Kubotas.

Buy the way, the machine shop I work for used to machine the bent bracket that mounts the rear of the front end loader to the tractor.We did not do this directly for Kubota.The supplier sent us lasercut and bent blanks. We machined the large hole and drilled the bolt holes.We also made the upper and lower rails to mount forklift bars on Kubota front end loaders.

Yea, they remove them when they mount the grill guard - it wasn't much of a guard, just a flat steel plate that dropped down. Instead of using both guards, which would need longer bolts. Dealers just remove the plate when they install the grill guard...

At the end of last year, I went into a Kubota dealer about 40 minutes away from me. I expected to pay around 17500 for an L3400 gear. He laughed and walked away from me and said when I was ready to give him 19300, we'd talk. I asked him if there was a front guard available for those tie rods so precariously placed in front, he then stated that when I bought the tractor, he'd answer my question. Did he ever really think I would buy anything from him with this attitude? By the way, does anyone know if there are guards for the tierods?

I've bought 9 Kubotas in 6 years and all are/were HST which is the way to go, especially if your going to have/use a FEL. Don't think you'll find many people that have bought a HST going back to a gear tractor. I think the % of HST sales is 90% to 95% vs gear. If resale comes up the HST will bring more (higher percentage return of purchase price) and sale quicker than a geared. When doing FEL work I keep one hand on FEL lever and one on the steering wheel and there is usually a bunch of back and forth movement with bucket work. Bought all 9 of them from Barlows so I'm seconding giving them a contact for a price. They don't charge state sales tax for out of state sales which can be a substantial amount of money savings.

There is a Kubota dealer in Sanford, NC that is supposed to be very good on pricing... I don't have personal knowledge, but was told this by another person. The Kubota dealers I previously dealt with (Tractor Place in Knightdale, and Carver in Dunn), are both recentlyout of business.

Arrow: The guard that we have covers the steering box and inboard tie rod ends only. Not the entire tie rod. Hope this info and picture (from the Kubota brochure) help. Jim

Cheez Jim, that is not going to do me. I would turn those exposed tierods into pretzels. Of course Kubota putting a bend in the tierod, seems to curtail the thought of slamming a pipe and welding it up on there. If I end up with one, I have to come up with a better method. I put Kubota out of the picture running into that nitwit Kubota salesman but the 2800 and 3400 are too nice a tractor to be disregarded as I think something could be fabricated to bolt onto the guard extending the protection. Right now its between Kubota L2800/3400 and Mahindra 2816 as I have a Mahindra dealer 10 minutes away. My biggest push toward the Kubota is that I feel parts will be less of an issue down the road as Mahindra, who like every one else, jumps from one manufacturer to another. Thanks for your help.
