Cheez Jim, that is not going to do me. I would turn those exposed tierods into pretzels. Of course Kubota putting a bend in the tierod, seems to curtail the thought of slamming a pipe and welding it up on there. If I end up with one, I have to come up with a better method. I put Kubota out of the picture running into that nitwit Kubota salesman but the 2800 and 3400 are too nice a tractor to be disregarded as I think something could be fabricated to bolt onto the guard extending the protection. Right now its between Kubota L2800/3400 and Mahindra 2816 as I have a Mahindra dealer 10 minutes away. My biggest push toward the Kubota is that I feel parts will be less of an issue down the road as Mahindra, who like every one else, jumps from one manufacturer to another. Thanks for your help.
Lou

Good Luck Lou, There sure is alot of tractor choices out there. Tough decision. Our L3400 has been a good tractor for us. Jim

That's a good price on the Kubota. I too looked at all the 35 HP range tractors and decided on the L3400. I am very happy with it so far even though I have only managed to put 10 hours on mine. It's been too muddy to do any meaningful work. I have a bunch of work to do this summer though. I also have the HST and I really like it.

Just a year ago I bought a Kubota L2800 (Same as a L3400 but 4 less horsepower) for $17560 here in Maine. I LOVE this tractor and have 70 hours on it building roads, hauling firewood, chipping slash and using it as a fancy wheel barrow. So far its had plenty of power for everything I do. The exposed tie rods haven't been an issue for me so far. Rolling a front tire off the rim is the worst to happen so far. And the dealer TOLD me to watch air pressure in the front tire in the winter.

Mine came with quick connect loader bucket, RimGuard filled Ag tires, bucket hook, block heater, grill guard and backup light, 0% down 0% interest for 56 months.

I have seen better prices posted in other parts of the country but these guys dealt with me for three months trying to decide what to buy (I looked at Deere and Massey and New Holland). They delivered it 35 miles to my house and we went over every filler cap, filter, and grease fitting right there in yard. They made me take notes on fluids, fuels, and grease. Underlined and circled stuff in my manual. AND warned me to watch air pressure in the front tires in the winter. At 50 hours they came to my house and did the first service right there for the materials cost AND left me an extra gallon of Super UDT and a quart of oil.

My point is, a little extra for a GOOD dealer is worth it, so don't go entirely by price.

Did I mention I love my Kubota and I am sure you will too.

And definitely get the HST. I wasn't sure at first, but am glad I got it now.

Nope, I'm a stick kind of guy. As far as parts being an issue. My wife tells me it isn't going to make a wit of difference what I get now because I'll be dead before a new tractor needs parts. Makes me want to take a sledge to it the first day its delivered. I'd walk into the house and say, "see hon, I told you I'd need parts"

At the end of last year, I went into a Kubota dealer about 40 minutes away from me. I expected to pay around 17500 for an L3400 gear. He laughed and walked away from me and said when I was ready to give him 19300, we'd talk. I asked him if there was a front guard available for those tie rods so precariously placed in front, he then stated that when I bought the tractor, he'd answer my question. Did he ever really think I would buy anything from him with this attitude? By the way, does anyone know if there are guards for the tierods?

I sure wouldn't buy anything from a guy like that.

In Nov. I bought an L3400 gear, FEL, 4X4, and loaded R-4's. Price was 14,000 or 16,047 with five year financing. I went with the financing. I played the dealers against each other, the best I could, to get this price. When I was on my way to pick buy it the competing dealer offered to throw in a free canopy.

Am VERY happy with the L3400. As I have seen in the TBN postings, Kubotas are higher on the east coast. Best of Luck.

Bill

Arrow, I understand every one has their own favorites! I grew up with nothing but manual transmissions on the various tractors I had But..... I got to tell you with a FEL the only way to go is a hydro! :) I absolutely love mine. Even pulling no holding or slipping the clutch just push the pedal and goooooo!:D
