I just bought a L3800 and love it. I compared it to the JD 3038E and it is in my opinion a much better tractor. Do the side by side comparison and you will see the difference.

I have had an L3200 ( almost identical to L3800 albeit less HP)for 15 months now w/ zero issues. I stepped up in size from a B7610.

Mine is an 09 L3400, 3800 is the same basic tractor with different bodywork and a few refinements. My hitch is jerky, but the rest of the tractor is really very good.

About 2 years in, the clutch started refusing to release, dealer split the tractor (under warranty) and found the input shaft splines rusty and sticking. Cleaned up and lubed them, no problems since then.

Good power and easy cold starting. Having the throttle pedal, brakes, AND diff lock pedal on the right side makes it hard to use brakes for steering on the gear drive models. Same with the hst version, has brakes and hst pedal on the same side.

Mine is a gear model and I've never had issues with the brake pedal, throttle & diff lock all on the same side. Actually every tractor I've had has been this way...

Sean do you mean there isn't enough room on the right side to operate because of limited space, and the number of controls on that side?
You wouldn't be using the dif. lock and steering brakes at the same time, so that shouldn't be a problem in itself. I generally use the hand throttle if I use the steering brakes.

The HST models with the brakes on the right never made sense to me. Other than using both feet on the right side of the tractor, I don't see how you could use the steering brakes at all.
I had a New Holland HST with the brakes on the left. It took a little getting used to, but was a much better arrangement IMHO.

Once I got used to the Kioti's DK's brakes on the left (took about 2 days).. it is an absolute joy to operate using brake steer on the ice. I could use the Kubota with the right brakes, by using the cruise control, but it was still awkward. But I can operate on my side sloping driveway to clean it off so easy now, just give her a little right or left "rudder" and I can hold a straight line now. :thumbsup:

I don't like using the hand throttle for snow clearing, which is when I want to use the brakes to steer. About the only time I use the hand throttle is for mowing an open field.
Using the diff lock to get unstuck is another situation where I'd rather use the foot throttle for better control.
I've actually looked at what it would take to move the diff lock to the left side, not an easy project.
So, unless I grow a second right foot, which according to my wife I already have, it's a pain in the azz.

I try to only engage the differential lock w/o load, so the clutch would be in. A left side lock pedal wouldn't work for me, at least. How about a hand lever?

None of the tractors I grew up with had foot throttles, so using a hand throttle is no big deal for me.
