I finally made my mind up today and bought a USED Kubota L48. I just got it home a few hours ago, so I haven't had hardly any seat time, but seams to be a nice machine.

I need to find a operators manual to it, any ideas?

xxxsandman, can you list the reasons you decided to purchase the L48 instead of the 110? I'm also considering both of these machines and I'm having trouble deciding which one to go with. I think I've read just about every post on this board refering to the L48 and/or the 110, so I am familiar with the general advantages/disadvantages of each. I'm just curious why you picked the L48.

The number 1 deciding factor is I found a USED Kubota L48 close to home. After getting NEW quotes, I realized new was not going to be an option for me. So I started searching for used and found their isn't many of these machines used to choose from near me. I stumbled across this one after a couple weeks of searching and took the plung, I hope I didn't make a mistake. It's an 04 model with close to 750 hours.

I also think the L48 is a very fine machine, although I have yet to use mine for any work. I can't say if it's better then a 110 or not, I've never even started a 110. Spec wise the L48 might be slightly better, but specs aren't everything. I think the 110 is a fine looking machine also.

I got home after dark, unloaded my new orange baby, pulled her in the shop, then got up the next morning and left town for the weekend for a family runion on my wifes side. :(
I'm itching like you wouldn't believe to go home and find something to dig up.

HAHA, and pretty soon you'll have all these backhoe related projects pop up that never existed! :)

Just make sure all fittings are greased, check for water in fuel, oil, coolant, etc.

I made it home FINALLY!

This evening I changed the oil and filter and greased every fitting I could find (there's a BUNCH). Most of the grease certs looked like they had been greased a bunch as there was a lot of excess grease around everything. Maybe that's a good sign?

All 4 tires have water in them. There isn't any notiable leaks anywhere and the engine is clean and dry. I moved some light compost piles around to warm it up before the oil change. The hydro is smooth and it's so nice not to have to do anything but move your foot the other way to change directions! I noticed High range didn't have much pushing ability, but medium seemed OK, but a bit slow. I think I read about this being a common grip.

Can someone tell me why it has a clutch like a NON Hydro machine has? I need to get me an operators/service manual, it didn't come with one.

The clutch on the L48, like other hydros, is for engaging the PTO and for changing speed ranges. Helps to push it in to start as well unless you are in N.

I put a few dozen hours on an L-48 and found high range useless for anything other than transportation.

Can a JD 110 unload a full 1.5 ton pallet? The L48 barely does and I would ? if the JD 110 could.

I would ? if the JD 110 could also. The L48 has the strongest loader lift wise of the bunch, though the CBL40 just beats the L48 on curl.

I have custom made clamp on pallet forks for my L39, and with the bucket with 80 lbs of reinforcement and the 90 lbs of forks that hang way out, about 1500 Lbs is all the L39 could do. With QA forks closer to the pivot pin and no bucket, maybe 2500 lbs is doable with the L39.

L39's strongest point is the hoe, not the loader, athough it gives up a foot to the L48
