Well I finally put an ad in the paper for my L48. My plan is to drop down to a tractor with a removeable loader. I thought I could get away mowing my hills and around my 100 plus sprinkler heads but find it's more work then anticipated. So before I put to many hours on it and it still has the factory warranty, my dealer mentiuoned I should consider selling now for the best return. I have been busy looking at the various tractors all over again. HST and a removeable loader are the only requirements. R A T ...

You have a lot of choices, RAT, that meet your two requirements! Everything from the very compact BX up through the various B-series can give you those features and a lot more...

The size of your property and the other tasks you want to perform or implements you might want to use will make your choice for you. (Not to mention money, of course...) But you knew that already. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No sooner did I post this then did I get a call from a guy who came by and bought it. He talked me down $300. I had planned on that. So now I'm down to only one tractor and no loader. How can one ever manage without a loader? Rat... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Rat - does your stable still include the L4850 ?

After you've had the L48 do you think it will be hard to go a smaller rig? What do you think of the 5030? Hope you enjoy the hunt for the perfect machine - Dick B

Yes Dick, the Kubota L4850 still resides at my sisters place. Of all the hours on it, I estimate I put about 3/4 of them on it. I still really enjoy firing up the L4850 and its smooth 5 cylinder diesel. Even the exhaust has a nice smell, kinda resembles oak firewood burning. It's also why when folks decide against getting HST but opt for shuttle shift instead why I think its still a great choice. The shuttle shift on the L4850 is really smooth. I don't think there will be a problem going smaller with the exception of having a much smaller loader in terms of lift capacity. The tractor I'm considering uses the LA 723, it has considerably less lift but they have refined it with 4 bar linkage and greater lift height compared to the older loaders put on the L3710 and smaller tractors. The L5030 looks great and has the same diesel as the L48. I'm looking for a little smaller tractor like the Kubota L3430, NH TC35D or JD 4410. Thanks, Rat...

Rat,
It musta been hard to see the (not so) old girl go,it really sounded like it was the perfect machine for your earthmoving projects, too bad it didn't fit so well for mowing.I had a chance to check out the new Botas' and have to say they really look good, especially the loaders, very impressive. It seems to me that Kubota usually takes the first major steps in improving their machines, which forces the other manufacturers to endlessly play catchup.Have fun searching out your new machine, soooo many choices out there, happy hunting!

Rat, I don't think I could ever recommend to you what size or model you need but I can w/out a doubt tell you what color it needs to be...ORANGE of course.

Mark, you are embarking on one of life's real pleasures - picking out a new tractor. And you will come to it with a lot of knowledge and experience (no I'm not saying you are old /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Whether you go orange or other color, we'll all be partly green while you are having all that fun.

ps - If you'd like a silver-haired consultant to help you soften up those California dealers - I could sure use a vacation from New England's endless winter. (another 5" of snow this morning) Take care, Dick B

RaT:

I only have 3 thing's to say....
1. 5030 HSTC is a 4 cylinder not 5 cylinder so is GSTC
2. See Attachment
3. Get your wallet out and/or dig up a few mason jars in the front yard /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Sorry about that winter Dick. I fired up our evaporative cooler today. Its 81 degrees. The grass is starting grow like weeds. I am still pondering the L3130HST or L3830HST. Now Daryl's L5030 with cab would be great for those hotter days and A/C. Of course, I'm sure it'd be topless after a few passes around my place and all the low lying trees. Rat...
