Kubota Gear Models - dry clutch
Kubota Glide shift (power shift + hyraulic shuttle) is wet clutch
Kubota HST has dry main clutch, only used for engaging really heavy PTO loads.

Tim is right on the money with most of his comments. I would disagree about the wet clutch though, especially if you are going to be doing any ground engaging work, lots of loader work, etc. That wet clutch will outlast a dry clutch by 3 to 1 or more. In a dry clutch you can burn the clutch out in a heartbeat. That doesn't happen with the wet clutch. It's a night and day difference between the two. If you want to compare it it's like comparing a gas engine to a diesel engine.

With regards to changing the clutch it's probably about 20% more labor intensive and parts are about the same. We've changed a few of them and it's not that much different than a dry clutch just the parts and assembly are different.

As far as price goes you should easily be able to get 15% off of list. Many people here get 20% or better off of list. Personally I can count on 23% off of list. If you're having trouble getting a discount PM me.

I'll have to consider the transmission differences. With HST I was figuring it wouldn't be too much of an issue.

23% off of list - that changes things a bit. I'm sure the Kubota price was not the dealer's best either. At the end of the day is sounds like if I am getting decent prices from either dealer there isn't too much of a difference. More of a preference issue (my daughter is voting for Kubota - likes the color better).

As you know I am new to this game - what exactly does a box blade do?

That's good to hear! This is the first wet clutch tractor we've had and I wasn't sure what to expect when the time came. Never had a loader before either, and I can see where that would be harder on a clutch. The '53 NAA (no loader) just got it's 3rd or 4th (dry) clutch installed in 52 years of all-around farm use. Didn't really need it yet, but we had the tractor split anyway to replace a seal. Guess it depends heavily on the tasks the tractor sees.

I love boxblades. Basically what they do is take alot of the "dummy" factor out of grading and leveling. The scarifers will make is much easier to get the right amount of bite in the ground. With a blade you take too little too much, very hard to get it exactly right. Also with the boxblade you can pull and push dirt. Also makes the job faster. And yes even with all my experience I consider myself in that "dummy" factor. With regular blade it takes me forever to do a good job. With a boxblade it's a piece of cake. There is a little bit of getting good with one but not near like a regular blade. It will make short work of your projects regarding dirt leveling and spreading.

Kubota website shows the GST as a dry type single stage clutch.

Yeah they might but the parts diagram show multiple plate wet hydraulicly operated clutch just like any other hydraulic shuttle/powershift tractor.

Maybe the dry disc is for the main clutch like the hydro model just to engage heavy pto loads.

You would think that they would have their website data and the parts diagram in sync with each other.

I've noticed a few errors in the past on thier website, mostly in those comparison documents to other tractors.
