Thanks for the write up and tips. Back in 2015 my LA1001 needed the same. My BIL knew someone who repaired it for < $50. It looks like you could have bought the entire cylinder for about $800.

Each cylinder seal kit is about $92 plus tax from Merricks. So for about $200, I did both sides and avoided an $800 expense. I must admit that < $50 including labor figure sure sounds good right now.

As an afterthought, I noticed kudos for both Messick's and MB during this thread so I looked up the seal kit pricing for my cylinders on both sites. FYI, Messick's = $91.49, MB = $95.58. For what it's worth.

Messick's is the number 1 kubota parts dealer in the USA ,MB tractor is number 2 that 's what my parts guy (MB) said........

Never even heard of MB tractor.
Am aware of Chappell though.
My L48TLB was bought by orig. owner from Union Farm Equip, in Union, Me.
Norfolk Power & Equip.in Carver, Ma. (85 mi.) is the nearest KB dealer to me on Cape Cod.
85 mi. is too far to drive for tractor stuff.

Messick's also has parts for my Fords.
The nice man in the big brown truck will bring me anything I need.
Messick's has been SO GOOD,........ why would I look elsewhere?

RI. and CT. are generally considered to be in the Northeast, and they are both well South of the Cape.
I grew up on the Cape, and still have my 1730 family home there.
Six months in Florida though.

The solution, while it is still warm, tighten a hose clamp around the seal and let it cool.

That is exactly what I do, and it works great.

I recently did a couple of Kubota hoe cyls, and the only special tool that I use is to install the inner rod-to-gland seal. The smaller the rod, the harder it is to distort this seal enough to get it in. I looked at Dave's Kubota instructions above, and I do not see the need for the special tools in that PDF. I use boiling water to heat this seal, and it is necessary to get the flexibility you need to get it on without breaking it.

I got one seal kit from Messicks ($40), but the other seals I got from Hercules.
