Kubota M8540 hydro shuttle use

Seems a little late for me to ask (2012 unit with over 2000hrs all by me) but am I not supposed to use the foot clutch to do close work like loading bales with a grapple etc? Early on I tried to use the throttle and brake to feather things but just not enough finesse there IMO. Am I doing this wrong?

Normally - put in gear, then forward and release clutch pedal. Always clutch to change gears or range (12/12) but not F-R. My salesman knew less about tractors than the guy walking down the street. He was a salesman, nothing more. So operation info was not a thing.

I'm always worried about my clutch going out as this is a PITA job to do in my shop made worse by the cab I have on it. Can't imagine what the dealer would charge for clutch replacement.

the forward/reverse lever uses an actuator valve that operates the wet pack clutch. my understanding is that both methods can be used, clutch or hyd cable doing loader work i do recommend coming to nearly full stop in motion before changing directions .

occasionally the hyd mechanical cable stretches & will require adjusting. easy job, you are fortunate to have a Tier 2 like mine rather than Tier4 8560.

in addition, you have a wet clutch gang assembly, apparently far out living the traditional single dry plate clutch type on shuttle shift reversers & regular manually geared tractors

No clutch needed for shuttle. I load bales on wagons, manure in spreader etc and rarely touch clutch pedal.

My '11 M7040 with 1900hrs of use that I've owned for 12 yrs has been used to handle several 1000's of rd bales. Foot pedal is rarely used when changing tractor directions. We use foot throttle to allow engine to achieve close to idle rpm's when using shuttle control when changing tractor directions. I previously owned a M4900 with Synchro-shuttle & SS synchronizers failed at 1600 hrs performing similar task.
