kubota models m vs mx

Some years ago Kubota MXs were described two ways:

MX is a de-accessorized Grand L, priced to sell at a utility tractor competitive price, rather than a de luxe price.

MX is an 'L' in front and an 'M' in the rear.

Gives you some idea -------

All Kubotas are built the same: GUD.

I'll disagree with this a little bit. I think the basic L series tractors are the "de-accessorized" Grand Ls. I.e. the l4600 model. Also, I could be mistaken, but I think you have the axle arrangement backwards. I think the mx uses a Grand L spur gear rear end, as opposed to the planetary final drive found on the M models, but has a heavier duty front axle than found on the Ls. Again, I could be wrong on that. I kind of think of it as the MX series is to the M series as the BX series is to the Bs. I will certainly agree that they all seem to be built pretty darn "GUD".

motobrown has it correct, I have the MX5100 HST and it is a great tractor. It is on the L54XX series frame and is a no frills hard-working tractor. Served me faithfully for a number of years.

Wow!! Big Bubba, you hit the nail right on the head. Before I bought my Kubota - I was over at the neighbors driving his 250 hp MF out in his fields. When I got down to the Kubota dealer I realized that - - 1) I didn't really need a 250 hp tractor and 2) I'd have to go green or red to get one that big.
My 2009 Kubota M6040 with loaded rear tires, front grapple and rear blade tips the grain scales at 9875 lbs.

MOTOWNBROWNE is always impressive.

However, I own a Grand L. Grand L operator's station has an spacious feel and flat floor. I have sat on an MX, which has a spacious feel and flat floor. Both gud. (Have not sat on an MX recently.)

The regular L's are rather cramped and have that hump in the floor. Gud too, but not all day.

Well the rear remote valves and outlets are like a grand L. The 3pt hitch parts will interchange from a larger grand L. They will not fit properly from an M model. It was always my thoughts of being an economy Grand L 4740 (MX4700) and Grand L 5140 (MX5100) The MXs are a bit smaller and lighter than their Grand L counter models.

Just my observations. ;)
