I agree with BP 100%. You are getting sound advice. Are you really sure you gotta pay cash? I would give considerable thought to buying the right new machine with a zero percent program. All the major manufacturers offer 4 or 5 year 0%. Getting the right machine for your need now will be less expensive in the long run, more productive with your time and more enjoyable.

Go get that B with the loader, the BB and the tiller with the zero percent. Keep your cash in your pocket and then you can get to work.

My old Kubota, and current NH, are both HST. I like HST best. But, that B2150 would be a nice very capable tractor. It's like my old B8200, but with 5 extra HP. My B8200 was HST, but no PS. Personally, I would try out the B2150; HST is wonderful, but that gear tractor aint no slouch.

Otherwise, rent for a bit. Then watch for the tractor you really want. Also, I'd like to hear more about what you want to do, property ect to see if whether are really THE type tractor.

Regardless, for immediate construction cleanup, I'd rent a skidsteer or tracked loader. They can move a LOT of dirt a lot faster than a CUT. Then, do your finish work and later maintentance with a CUT.

I have. There is a bigger model for rent...can't remember what size. But it comes with every implement delivered and picked up for $175 per day. That is insanely a good deal if you ask me. I might try that if my wallet doesn't burn a hole in my pocket first... :)

bp fick pretty much nailed it.

Many will advise renting for a variety of reasons, to learn a little about tractor operation, for the occasional job your tractor won't handle etc. We rent/barter for skid steer or backhoe as we don't need them often enough to spend the money for them to gather dust.

Take your time and get what you need/want the first time and it will save you time and money in the long run.

assjas007,
Never did see any kind of breakdown of how many acres to finnish mow how many to bush hog etc etc. There is no substitute for horsepower, and off the top of my head I'm guessing the 16 hp kubota will be too small for 5-7ft finish mower that you would want if you end up mowing 3+ acres.
Unlike everyone else I have a Ford 1700 gear tractor with no power steering and an FEL for the last 15+ years.
You really do need to make a list of want you need for your tractore to do year-in and year out and buy one to do that list well.

I can attest to the fact that a 17PTO HP tractor is too small to run a 5' brush hog in heavy grass. I ran ours behind the B7500 (HST) for a little bit (needed a longer PTO shaft for it to work on the L3830) and it was ALL it wanted to do to keep the bushhog spinning in the grass. Additionally, on warm (75-80 degrees out) days it was pushing the tractor very close to the red zone on the temp gauge.

I have had similar results with the 5' MMM on the same tractor. When it is warm out and the grass is high, it has all it wants to do keeping the MMM spinning at full speed.

My experience was just the opposite. I ran a 5' Land Pride through about 3 acres of a powerline right-of-way that had been neglected for years. This was with a 16.5 PTO HP Deere 670.
Slow going, but as the brush was both tall and thick and the ground quite uneven (plus I had no idea what was under that brush), slow travel was advisable. It actually surprised me how well it did. There were times the tractor bogged, but I just stopped forward motion and let the engine catch up.

However, between assjas007's choices, I'd go for the higher powered B2150 over the B7300 (which I think is 14 PTO HP)...or keep looking. If he keeps looking, about 20 PTO HP would run that 5' cutter nicely.

As far as aczlan's

You've got to clean the radiator screens out when you see the temp gage moving up. They clog pretty easily and quickly when brush cutting.

I was cutting knee high grass that was fairly thick (in a field that was hayed last year, but hadn't been touched since). I probably could have gone a little slower, but I wasn't wanting to spend all day in the field.

I was thinking the same thing when I was running it, but the screen was clear. Nothing of note on it. I need to look one of these days with a light and see if there is crud clogging the fins, then check with a temp gauge to see if there is flow through the radiator.

Howdy again all. Well I ended up getting the B2150 with no HST but Power Steering. The gears are over on the fender so are not in your way at all. Wow what a nice little tractor. 4 Cylinder 24HP 4WD. I have been moving dirt all weekend. It will do just what I wanted it for. Picking up a box blade from a friend this weekend. Pic attached.
