Kubota BX2360
Looking for opinion on the best type of oil to use on my Kubota BX2360? Bought it new this spring and just changed the oil/filter for the first time...the dealer suggested regular 10W30 and that is what I used. However, after thinking about the low relative temp of diesel engine... and speaking with my neighbor who suggested 5W40... I just want to make sure to use the right oil! Any advice?? Thanks.

There may be no right or wrong answer, but plenty of conflicting opinions.:D Your dealer should be a good source of information, but your profile doesn't say where you're located. The ambient temperature when you're using the tractor might affect the weight of oil that's best. Just be sure you're using an oil that's rated for diesel engines, not just gasoline engines. In the Texas heat, I think everyone I knew used 15W-40 oil in their diesels, but the 5W-40 should be good in my opnion.;)

Before anyone can make a recommendation they should know what area you are in and if it would be used in the winter cold or even the type of storage that it would have in the cold.

High TBN numbers like 10 or higher as well as sulfated ash numbers being over 1.2 are better for most diesel engines and both of those numbers if high are bad for a gas engine! So if someone is recommending a generic oil thaat will work in both you look out! They will get you past the warrantee by a few years and leave YOU with the expense of the damage.

Shell Rotella T synthetic 5w-40 would be a fine all around choice and is readily available at Wal Mart, as well as most auto parts stores.

'nother vote for the 15-40 rotella synthetic. Also, as noted above, care for a diesel like a diesel should cared for.

This is what I use year round in my L3940. Buy it by the gallon at Walmart or Tractor Supply.
