Kubota RTV-X1140 disappointing performance

I worked at a large Kubota, new Holland dealer. Also had Polaris and mowers. Group of Japanese engineers came from Kubota wondering why people traded kubota in on Polaris. I told a shop guy to put them in a Polaris and go jump the trash dumpster then hop the highway and go burn doughnuts in the wall mark parking lot, then they will understand. Them Kubota are like driving a riding lawnmower somewhere. Transmissions are over engineered and over complicated. My dad has a sxs that he puts 4k a year on around the farm. It has only been on the farm. That thing is 10 or twelve years old. It's a non Kubota machine. He will haul a 16' trailer, we've pulled calves with the winch, maintained four egg laying houses, use it haying, it gets used lots and lots. Pull a welding / cutting rig with it and built a huge corral and round crowding pen, chute with rolling gates to work our cattle. Look at how big the Kubota transmission is? John dear gator is a beefed up go cart. Kawasaki is so so. Polaris Ranger Crew sounds like what you need. Or get an old station wagon remove the doors and cut the top off. Old farmer here had a 4 door LTD done that way to feed hay. He'd be out there jumping them terraces and grand kids just a screamin. Now days somebody calls the cops because kids are screaming with delight....i want them sad and angry like me...
Yep. I am so glad I replaced my RTV-900 with the Sidekick RTV-XG850. It came with a GO Switch instead of a SLOW Switch. :)

Boy, I guess I'm different from most people. I got tired of "toys" now I don't even touch my junk Polaris's.
I like a work machine. And mine has no problem going 25 MPH on the roads with the AC on or off. According to my speedo and a Garmin GPS.
I hauled gravel all day up my hills and didn't notice anything get hot or excessive fan on time. It does bog initially when the AC kicks on, but it picks right back up and does the same speed up the hills loaded or empty, AC on or off.
Guess I got a good one.

Yes, would be nice if it was faster for my trail riding.....but I'll take slow over a DPF any day.

Same experience here.I needed a workhorse verses a RACER..No issues with mine.Cannot wait to try it out in the snow this year.

Hi all,

I've had an RTV900 for about 11 years, and have been pretty happy with it. We now have 3 children and I wanted something that we could all drive around on, as well as still be a good work horse.
So I thought the X1140 would be a good fit. Very happy with the space and ride, but the power is greatly lacking in my opinion.
I think in the brochure it mentions 25mph (40kph) as a top speed, however I struggle with one person (me) on flat hard ground to get more than 19-20mph (30kph).
In soft sand with kids onboard it really labours and wont' go above 10mph.

I'd love to hear from any other owners about their experience. It just doesn't seem right that the X1140 is so much slower. When I hop on the old 900 its like a rocket in comparison.

Cheers

Some kinda ironic to seed this post today when just yesterday I watched a video by Stoney Ridge Farm on this exact issue - 2007 to 2021 and the issue has not been changed what so ever. Makes me wonder why actually!!

I have a new, about 10 months, 900. It takes a while to wind up but it gets to the rated 25mph. my bigger issue with mine is if i start up a hill it will not downshift itself so it bogs down. I can let off the throttle completely and come to a near stop and then back on it and it is like it downshifts and then takes right off. Also when you let off the throttle it’s almost like you pulled the parking brake at the same time, stops very quickly. I have 150 hours, about 400 miles on mine.

If you are expecting it to downshift you will be waiting a long time. HST transmissions don't downshift (or upshift). The effective gear ratio is based on hydraulic flow and is a continuous range. If you want effectively lower gearing, back off the pedal. When you floor it, it's the highest effective ratio possible.

Kubota came out with the RTV-XG gas models a couple years ago which trade some utility for fun and speed. Anyone not needing the heavy duty turtle capability of the diesel/HST RTV-X models should be buying the gas models. They can hit 40mph.

A couple years ago when I first was going to buy the RTV, then got stupid and bought another Polaris that I still regret to this day, I was going to get that Kubota straight blade Coobie. That's all you really need. The Kubota vee plow is a lot more expensive.
This time around I sold my F550, so I had the money to buy the vee plow. That's the only reason I got that. And got the Boss because it was cheaper than the Kubota vee.

I eyed the Boss vee plow pretty hard when I purchased my RTV but for my plowing needs the straight worked fine.My 2006 RTV 900 had a straight plow that worked great that is what I based my decision on.

My first pass plowing is up a steep hill. The vee plow helps penetrate the snow easier. If it were a flat or downhill first pass, I would have saved the money and went with the straight blade.
