Kubota Steering wheel removal help needed.

i just pulled a steering wheel off a JD x730 last weekend and I had to hit it quite often on the underside with a deadblow hammer. there is a taper on the JD and splines so it is the taper that is holding on. I think upward pressure on the steering wheel with a light tap on the shaft would probably have been easier than hammering away with the deadblow hammer but it got the job done. had a mouse nest under the dash that needed to be dealt with because it seized the tilt steering mechanism.

Thank you to all that have responded!! I will likely have to try a number of different things but I like the tool that chim suggested in post #18. Looks fairly easy to replicate the U holed washer using some 1/4 flat stock and a puller that I already have. I can always hit the puller center bolt with the pneumatic hammer a little to introduce some vibrations and hopefully be successful.

On a Kubota B7100 ( no power steering ) a sharp tap with a brass mallet did the job.

Just to add some info for someone who may need it. I have an M7-171 premium and had to remove my steering wheel. I couldn’t get any kind of puller on it without destroying the plastic shroud below it. I ended up opening the rear window and tying a ratchet strap to the light brackets on each rear side of the cab at the top and running it under the steering wheel. Tightened the ratchet strap (Not enough to damage the steering column) and removed the steering wheel nut. Then used an air hammer on the steering wheel shaft but still wouldn’t move. Then I used a small butane torch to heat the top of the steering wheel hub slightly (had a small amount of rubber inside where the nut is that melted but nothing bad). Tried air hammer again and it finally popped loose. I found that the steering wheel is splined on the top but has a tapered press fit section just below the splines. Tried to draw a picture the best I can of what the shaft looks like. How this helps someone in the future.

One thing I learned from a Willys Jeep forum is to loosen the center nut but do not completely remove it. That way when the steering wheel finally pops free you don’t lose teeth by it smacking you in the face.

Put some Never Seize on the splined section after you get it off. Never had any issue getting mine off in the past.
