Kubota tool/chain box

I'm fairly new to this board but I've had a Kubota L3130 for two years. Recently traded it for an L5030 and cleaning out my glovebox reminded me to post this.

There is no good place to store a length of chain on this tractor. I didn't want it to hang and bang on the paint, and the toolbox behind the seat already has, well, tools in it. So my experiment that has worked out really well - a length of 5" square PVC fence post bolted to the side...

Attachment is easy. There are two holes near the bottom of the FEL bracket. I cut a piece of 6x6x2" and shaved it to fit into the bottom of the post. Some 3" lag bolts into the wood and it stays snug. A bit of Kubota Orange and it's all done.

Hi Brian,
Great idea ! I wasnt so creative when I was lookin for a place for my 15ft length of 3/8" chain. I just wrapped it around the counter weight on the 3pt until I need it to drag a log or whatever. I like your idea better

Hoooo man, that looks COLD! I grew up in MI but moved to SC because my wife and I vowed we'd be where there's no snow before we died. We do get the ocassional dusting but nothing like THAT. Brrrr

Looks very handy. But I'm not quite sure how it's attached. Did you use a piece of wood as a sort of bracket? Is the wood attached to the FEL and then the PVC tubing attached to that?

Sorry for the confusion - I should have explained better.

The piece of wood fits snugly in the bottom of the PVC fence section. It serves as both the bottom and the anchor for the lag bolts. The bolts come in thru the side from the holes in the FEL support. It's easiest to thread them all the way and then back them out before installing because there isn't much room inside the FEL support.

So picture the fence/box alongside the FEL support with lag bolts thru the FEL support into the wood in the bottom of the PVC.

That is a nice chain holder idea and it looks great. Have you thought about drilling a couple holes in the wood bottoms for drainage and clearing out any sand or leaves? I had to do that to my chain box and it helped a little.

Gotcha! I understand. That's clearer now. You know, I love this forum. I would've never thought of attaching it that way. I would've tried to drill holes through the body or something. You can get so much insight into all the little things on this forum.

Scott, how do you keep your counter weight from swinging without the top link hooked to it?

Thanks for your idea. I've used empty 1 gallon used Tide clothes washer containers which are square, cut out on the top, and ty-rapped to the side of the fel similar to your location. They work ok and are ORANGE just like the tractor. Now I'll try your idea!

Here are three that I posted on TBN about five years ago. They are steel and get a lot of abose,but have held up well. I can grab one chain hook and give it a yank as I get off the tractor. Thechain slithers out like it is a trained snake.
The PVC will be good because it will not corrod. If it breaks make a steel one.

I did the same thing. except for mounting. I drilled and tapped for 1/4 20 bolts and locked them with double nuts. I'm also posting a pic of a storage tube, a 5' piece of 4" PVC that runs through the loader brace pipe. holds my big chains
also usedPVC to hpld my fire extinguisher. As you've already guessed I can't weld.

You are a better Eskimo than I. I am in south central Oklahoma and we may or may not get snow in any given winter but I have a heated cab on my Kubota. I have never experienced cold enough weather that the heater could be left full on. Kubota gave me a heck of a cab heater. Of course the coldest it has been here in the last 6-8 years is about 0F.

I like that - much heavier box and the tube-PVC is a GREAT idea!
