Re: Probably a stupid question, but.....

No such thing as a stupid question as far as I'm concerned, woodstock. Thanks to all for the posts. Valuable info to me. Thanks to Ron for detailing his project. I have not gotten any response from the e-mail inquiries to Gearmore and Gannon. Kind of bugs me that some manufacturers post an e-mail "get in touch with us" address, then don't ever check their mail or just ignore it.
It's certainly not like I have money burning a hole in my pocket, but it's kind of strange that I'm ready to buy and can't find anybody to deliver the goods. Just goes to show you what a unique (surely not strange) bunch of consumers we TBNer's are, I guess.

Couldn't I rob this cylinder and use it on the top of the 3-pt to give me the tilting feature everyone is drooling about

What kind of ends does that cylinder have on it? Are they the same as the ends on your existing top link? And is that cylinder the right length? In other words, it might be possible, but I'm no help because I know absolutely nothing about snow blowers./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Hey, that ain't quite true; I learned on TBN that you can get 'em to go on either end of your tractor; front or rear./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I periodically turn around and "pick up" detritus with the FEL.

"detritus" -- Wow, GlueGuy! I thought GlennMac was the only one with a dictionary flowing through his veins! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

If I keep reading this board, I may eventually be inculcated with sufficient vocabulary to constitute a lexis of my own. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

The top link cylinder has a ball on both ends similar to your adjustable top link. The cylinder for snow blower will not have the ball ends. The cylinder that is used to raise snow blower may be too large in diameter to clear lift arms and fittings. On my old Farmal I made an adapter that screwed onto cylinder rod that had ball end welded to it. You may want to add a valve to operate the top link cylinder so the FEL can still be used.

GlueGuy
I read your message and just went over the word Detritus figuring you meant Debris. But after reading Harv's response I had to go to Webster's Dictionary to find out if I was right. What an education./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Not only do I learn about tractors. But also the English that I did not learn as well as I should have 50 years ago.

Main Entry: de·tri·tus
Pronunciation: di-'trI-t&s
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural de·tri·tus /-'trI-t&s, -'trI-"tüs/
Etymology: French détritus, from Latin detritus, past participle of deterere
Date: 1802
1 : loose material (as rock fragments or organic particles) that results directly from disintegration
2 : a product of disintegration, destruction, or wearing away : DEBRIS
- de·tri·tal /-'trI-t&l/ adjective

Thanks /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

OK, I will remove all doubt by asking a definitively stupid question ... what the heck is "Top N Tilt" and what would it do for me (other than cost me more money)?

Don,
Basically, it is replacing the manually screw-adjustable top link (top) and one of the lift links (tilt) with a hydraulic cylinders and, control valves. Saves you getiing off the tractor for making the adjustments. It's not such a big deal unless you use "landscape" 3pt equipment frequently. It's especially nice with a box blade since small adjustments in the top link make a big difference in performance. If you are not doing work for hire, yes, I would call it a bit of a luxury...but, for many of us, aren't tractors in the first place?
