Kubota B7800 4/wd
I have been using my adjustable wrench a lot on a B7800/--L3700 ? I would like to purchase a torque wrench and some large wrenches maybe a socket or two from northern tool. Do I need metric or standard also any specific sizes ? I have a grease gun.

Use the same formula I use. I tell my wife that it is necessary to spend approximately 10% of the purchase price on tools to correctly maintain the vehicle.

If you spend $10,000.00 on a vehicle then you should spend $1,000.00 on tools. Use of this formula should set you up pretty well. Each vehicle requires the additional expense. Do not fall for the "you already have enough tools" line.

Let me know when they arrive so I can move next door to you.

Oh as for the tools start with a GOOD 3/8 metric socket set covering 8MM to 20MM or so and a GOOD set of combination wrenches of the same range. I seldom use a torque wrench on the tractor except for engine work.

Since I have several tractors, I just bought a complete tool kit from Sears with sockets and end wrenches along with a torque wrench. Kubotas use metric bolts/nuts though in some of the larger sizes SAE will work.

I am sure Northern will have sets also and I buy some stuff from them too.

[a little OT]

I've got a really useful tool in the box. It's a big "crescent" wrench with a handle that tapers into a spike. Seems like there are always some holes to be aligned when wrestling with the tractor and accessories. I suppose adjustable wrenches are evil, but mighty handy.

Anybody know what that tool is called? I haven't found it or a pic on the web yet.

I am probably a bad person to suggest what you should have for tools. I have probably have over $900 worth of hand tool and $1200 of air tools in my house garage and well over $5000 in the shop garage in my shed. I also carry 200+piece Craftmans sets in both my work van and my personal truck, I also installed a onboard air system on my truck for min use of air tools but mainly for airing up tires.

I would suggest that you go to Sears and buy a 200 or so piece Craftsman set. It will have most of the things that you will need for repairs, plus its lifetime warrantied.

WOW!!!! where do you live?? I will check out sears. I mentioned northern tool because they offer a Jumbo wrench set, I do not know what 20mm equates to. The torque wrench would be used for our Wallenstein Chipper, the manual recommends different torques? Is this necessary or would good judgement work? Thanks for the replies.

I think this might be what you have, Crescent 10" Adjustable Construction Spud Wrench. Iron workers use wrenches with a similar end.

In my opinion, there is simply no substitute for a good torque wrench when working on machinery. I did it for years, but certainly don't advise it.

What size should I look for ?

You shouldn't need any "jumbo" wrenches for the tractors you have.

Everything is meteric, but I'd also suggest a set of standards. If I am not mistaken I think the hydraulic hoses are still SAE sizes. So if you ever need a replaceent you may need standards.

I'd start with a set of 3/8 and 1/2 drive standard AND meteric sockets.
And also a set of std and met. wrenches.

Most kits come with an assortment of extensions, u-joints, etc.

For sockets, dont mess with 12-point, get the 6 pointers unless you are doing engine rebuilds because about the only thing 12 point on anything automotive/tractors is flywheel bolts, rod cap bolts, and somethimes head bolts.

But for the wrenches I perfer 12 point. 6-point is a PITA especally in close quarters.

I can personally vouch for the quality of the HF pittsburgh brand deep impact sockets. I havent broke a one yet and I use them in an IR 2135TI Impact that has no trouble snapping new 1/2" gr8 bolts.

Aside from them basic sockets and wrenches, you will need a few screwdrivers for miscellaneous hose clamps and small prying jobs.

If you havent got one, get a big 15" crescent wrench. They are good for things like tightening the nut on a tow ball and such.

And a couple of specialty tools you may want to consider while you are there is a greese gun for sure and an oil filter wrench.

And vice grips and pliers are also handy to have with you on the tractor as well as a crescent for things like the turnbuckels on the 3PH.

PS, you can never have too many tools. I am also one who has $1000's invested. The basic stuff you need isn't going to break the bank. It when you get into all the specalty things like DVOM's, flaring tools, ball joint seperators, dial indicators, cam R&R tools, bearing drivers, pullers, enging rebuild tools, etc. etc. But you should be able to get the things I listed and come in well under the $400 mark at HF.
