Not to argue, but most rental places are only worried about their bottom line. They will buy what's cheapest - within reason. They don't want junk, but they're not concerned about your comfort or convenience either. They also want to be able to sell it when it's depriciated. (usually 5-7 years)
They can buy a "50 hp" Kubota cheaper than a "50 hp" Deere. And, the average rental customer doesn't care.
Example: (Disclaimer: all numbers in the following example are fictitious)
Let's say Acme Rental buys a orange tractor for $25,000. It rents for $25 per hour. Keeps it 5 years and rents it out 1000 hours, then sells it for $12,000. (gross of $37,000 minus the original $25,000 purchase price = $12,000 to the good)
Right beside it is a green machine that he paid $35,000 for. It rents for $35 per hour, but doesn't go out as often because Billy Bob takes the cheaper one. Keeps it 5 years and rents it out for 200 hours, then sells it for $25,000. (gross of $32,000 minus purchase price of $35,000 = $3000 in the hole)
OK, the 5 years are up. Now, Acme is going to buy 2 tractors. Guess what color they will be?
An individual, buying a tractor for the long haul, possibly the rest of his life, has a different perspective. On my latest tractor purchase, I wanted power, traction, comfort, and convenience.
