Yeah..sounds like you probably got lucky. I don't see any damage to the top of the piston, but of course won't know anything till I get in there. Have never done any major work on the Cub so it's been a case of taking many pictures, etc. as I go along. There is this Custom Lawn and Garden outfit that does rebuilt short blocks, but I think I'd rather go with this local guy - avoids the core charge for one thing - and he says he has blocks for mine. Would love to get away with just replacing a few items. I wonder...my piston also is exactly half way in the cylinder. I started to push it down (by hand) just to see if it moved but the one guy I talked to said not to push it down too far since, of course, it'll wind up down in the crankcase. No idea either what damage may have been done to the crank, etc.
Either way I really would need new rings...or else the blow-by will just continue. Assume the rings are probably pretty well worn out.
