Comparison Kubota vs. John Deere

/ Kubota vs. John Deere #61
My main beef with kubota... I can't get my son a copy of my tractor to play with. Personally, I like Deere for the most part. They charge a lot for parts and I don't like the plastic body pannels. They do break. The current direction in manufacturers has made the classical US equipment makers irrelavant from the support the us worker angle.

What really makes me love Kubota over Deere? I'm sick of the excessive marketing. If i see an old time case, IH, AC, farmall, or some other brand of memorabilia, I know they are country. When I see JD, I just get the fanboy/poser impression. I'd just like to get my son a model tractor thats not a JD and isn't going for a collectors price.
Kubota used to have a BX23 model, I have one I bought years ago. It is more a shelf model though, to fragile for kids. Kubota dealers have or some dealers have the ride model Kubota for kids. Here's one, if I can find the picture that Barlows has or had.

The never ending battle of the brands :D Gotta love it...

Puts me in mind of the Chev truck commerical that ran this past super bowl. I own a 98 F150, drove it off the showroom floor matter of fact, but I highly enjoyed that commercial even tho it claimed my Ford wouldn't survive the end of the world but a Chevy could :D
I got disappointed when I found out Ford whined about it and even tried to stop it from running. Now being a Ford owner I'd have preferred that they just counter attacked with a similar entertaining ad instead of whineing about Chevy's ad.....
Thing is, it didn't change my perception of either company as I'm very happy w/my F150 but feel both make quality 1/2 ton to 1 ton pickups and I'd be happy w/either.

I'll defer about the government motors thingie for now tho :D

re. the OP's question. I believe he/we should be compareing specific models and not the companys.... Fact is, depending upon the model, one company will have an edge, be it ever so slight but an edge all the same. Both companys market their goods the world over and both can claim devoted customers, kind of a wash IMHO, so one needs to compare models....
Perhaps the OP should state his needs more clearly which could then narrow it down to model comparisons.
Until then I'll just sit back and enjoy who can pop their chests out further :D

Carry On

For me, I was a John Deere garden tractor owner and my Dad bought one when I was 14 for my lawn mowing business - I had run two Murray's into the ground!

I looked at SCUT's for two years and assumed a 2305 was in my future. The local Deere dealer wouldn't deal, and offered me squat on my trade.

I went to Barlows - service was great and even being in VA they help over the phone. I love Green but I love Orange too; in this instance price pushed me in Kubota's direction. You'll be happy with either unless you have very specific needs that only one or the other address.

Ford once briefly had a commercial where a Ford guy was standing by his pickup on the ice and saying how well his Ford did in the winter. The announcer asked how about his friend with the Chevy. The Ford guy pointed to a big hole in the ice and said, "Like a rock!". Understand GM didn't like that at all and Ford had to pull it. I thought it was kind of cute, like "Nothing runs like a Deere, or smells like a John".

OK. I have a BX2360, purchased last October new. It's a great little tractor and does everything I want, but I'm seriously considering trading it (when I sell my other house) for a Deere 1 series. I have now put on, taken off the mower once and the rototiller twice. I'm sure I'll get faster at it, but I'm getting too old to be horsing these things around just to get them to connect. I want to be able to drive over the mower and attach without crawling under the tractor to attach the PTO. I also want to back up and attach the tiller with the flip of 3 levers. The time saved connecting and wear saved on my body will be worth it.

Thats a good one. I don't recall it so they must not have even ran it down my way :D
I dunno, I feel that things are right w/the world when Ford, Chevy, Dodge and the newcomers Toyota & Nissan are locking horns over their 1/2 ton pickup trucks :D

tjwoody. J Deere has definitely hit one out of the park w/their new I series SCUTs. Those quick attach features are going to set the standard for all the SCUT manufacturers.
There are many things to like.
There are two major drawbacks on them IMHO tho,
1) theres just entirely too much plastic in them, I'll be surprised if those hood assemblys last a couple seasons...
2) have you priced one w/all the quick attach features yet? Be sitting down when you do :D

After spending the time:
1) attaching,
2) detaching,
3) cursing at difficult fittings and alignments, and
4) nursing aching muscles from horsing attachments around

I think the price difference will be worth it. This is supposed to be retirement and I'd rather spend aches and frustration on other stuff.

Have you ever thought about getting a quick attach for the 3 pt? Look on Everything Attachments website. They sell a couple different models. I even think I saw a quick attach for the loader, but I can't remember where. Maybe YouTube.

It is ridiculous reading posts about which Model tractor is better. I have driven a couple of brands, and I can say they all have benefits and drawbacks. It is all about the dealer. My local Kubota dealer sticks it to you when buying, but does a great job at servicing (reasonable prices). So I bought from a dealer 200 miles away. The local JD dealer is priced pretty well, but they do so much maintenance work for the local farmers, it takes weeks to get on their schedule. I loved the JD, but went Kubota due to the service time issue. If I had a New Holland dealer locally, I would seriously have looked at one of the new 8N's. Very, Very cool tractor. But, no dealer locally, so I didn't go with them.

So, I think it depends on where you are, more than what you buy. They all are pretty good. Except those darn ........... (put name of the other brand tractor here).

RJD2516,

I agree service is a large part of why you buy where you buy, but for me ease of use is also important. I have been contemplating a quick hitch and if I decide to stick with my BX2360 I'll most likely get one. I had a reasonable, although not great, sales experience with my dealer, haven't had any service experience yet. Still debating on whether to do the 50 hour service myself. I still, however see myself having to do a level of horsing equipment around (particularly the mower deck), especially in spring. The JD drive over auto connect deck is especially interesting to me and I like the Deere iMatch with autoPTO for hooking up a tiller. I'm really just looking to make my life easier and less physically demanding, after all, isn't that why I bought a tractor in the first place?

Edit: Official name of autoPTO is AutoHitch.

Hey, some good points.

Does the imatch still require you to only use JD implements, or can you use anybody's stuff?

I am going to look up the auto-PTO shaft attach. That sounds pretty awesome.
