Kubota vs. Kioti

My local Agco dealer (also orange) thought Kioti was a subsidiary of Kubota. I didn't find out that was not true until I went to the local Kubota dealership and he set me straight.

There are good and bad dealers with every brand. I have a blue tractor, but don't really care for the dealer I purchased from. Since then, I go to another dealer for my needs and I have been happy with them.

I wouldn't give up on Kioti without looking at another dealer, but I'd look around at dealers of some other brands you are interested in too. )

The deal was I could get a good deal on a DK35 from Kansas, but the only dealer in my part of the world would not return my calls and he was never there when I was. Two parts people are giving out retail prices. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

( As a Kioti owner, lets remember the history here. At one time, Kubota was just a small player in a market that belonged to JD/NH, etc...now there one of the leaders and the others have fallen off. Size alone does not determine the companys sucess (see GM) but the strength of there offerings compared to the competition. You are correct, Kioti is a small player now...lets see in a few years as the brand gets established and better known to the market. )

If we want to bring up history, then we should do so in an accurate way.

Kioti, Mahindra, Montana, etc are all small players in what is currently a well established compact utility tractor market.

However, when Kubota entered the fray, there was virtually no such thing as a compact utility tractor as we know them today. There were small farm tractors but they were not well suited to the tasks of small land owners, hobby farmers, etc. Kubota actually built the CUT market because it defined the market. Kubota did not take the market away from JD/NH because those companies were really not serving that market niche. Yes, they did have some smaller tractors, but again, those smaller tractors were not the equivalent of the machines that Kubota brought into the market. Further, Kubota marketed their machines to the hobby farmers, to the mini-estate owners, etc. JD/NH were out selling their equipment to real farmers and focusing their efforts on agricultural dealerships which serviced farmers.

The market today is MUCH different than the market of 30 years ago. To suggest that because Kubota was small and now dominates, cannot be used as a valid comparision to the growth of any other minor brand today. But if I had to bet on one of the brand, it seems like Mahindra has the most capital and widest selection of machines to cover the market. The other brands are currently lacking in comparison to Mahindra, and Mahindra is still lacking compared to Kubota in their smaller machine selection.

Bob:

That is, in a nutshell, very well put.

Over 20 years ago I bought my first Kubota, a B1600 HST 4wd with a front loader for yard work and a small hoe for around our new farm. I also got a (I think), 60" mid mount deck and if I remember correctly, it did a wonderful cutting job, much better than my Case Ingersoll graden tractor did.

I looked at (at the time), AC, JD, IH and Case and none of the major players had a small, compact diesel tractor with the features of the Kubota and none had FWD . It's interesting to see what a revolution that Kubota Corporation started and the players in the field created by Kubota over 20 years ago. The major players all had agricultrial tractors but none with the versitility of the Kubota and none at the price of the Kubota. Over the years I've owned a number of Kubota's from my little 16 horse B to my present 92 horse M9 and over the 7 different models I have had the pleasure of owning and abusing, I've never had any major problems whatsoever and the minor problems were handled in a timely courteous and professional manner by the local dealer and the Kubota Corporation.

I have owned other makes and at present have other makes but, I feel strongly that Kubota surpasses all other makes in quality and durability and the eventual value at trade-in or resale. Kubota is my first choice when I go to the barn for a tractor..

Having said that, I'll retreat to receive flak from owners of other colors of tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just remember though that whatever color you have, Kubota laid the playing field down initially and over the decades, the other colors have had to keep up with the original player.

Yes, my signature picture is me in my old, traded-in but fondly remembered 5030. It's for old times sake and besides, I'd need a bigger picture for the M9. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hello Coolbreze, This topic has gotten very heated over the past few years. They very rarely remain civil..Your in a Kubota room so enough said on that. No they are not the same company, each has a slightly different design philosophy. MikePa gave you very good advise.. Both machines are solid, each has its strong points, owners of both love their tractors... That said find a machine your interested in both and test drive them. Make sure you feel comfortable with your dealer, lousy dealers come in all colors..Compare everything that is important to you in what your looking for, price, specs, finish, warranty, resale or whatever. Then ask members brand specific in each room for their experience with the models your looking at. Good luck
