Interesting. My experience echoes what some others have said and that is that the exhaust from the L30's does not have a diesel like odor, in fact, it's kind of indistinguisable. Now my old International, it was a pig when it comes to emissions. It was virtually identical to the smell you get when you dump an entire can of BBQ lighter fluid on the charcol and imediately light it. It was intoxicating when hooking up a 3 pt implement.

Try adding some 2-EHN (2-ethylhexylnitrate) to boost your cetane level (although in California I think you already have 50 cetane ULSD fuel mandated for on-highway use). With the higher cetane more refined fuel that you have compared to the rest of the country, some cetane boost will still raise the cetane level 4 or 5 points and the injection timing will advance a little since the fuel lights off sooner by a couple of crank angle degrees, thereby giving a more complete burn.

Sky,

For God's sake....how do you know all this stuff...I thought you were a molecular biologist, not a diesel engineer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Rat,

I like the comparsion too. The L39 loader has hundreds of pounds of lift on the 110. After looking at the rig again today, I agree that the wheels and tires are a big part of the size difference. Did you notice the weight though, the 110 weighs in at nearly 1,000lbs more. I really like the size of it and its width...very stable looking, nice and fat and wide, with a 7'2" turning radius. The 110 looks tall and tippy in comparison.

My 3830 is extremely clean burning. Within a couple of minutes of startup I can stand right next to the exhaust (at idle) and breath, no problem without the nasty diesel clouds. I can't believe it sometimes. Like you said, it's hard to even know it's a diesel aside from the rubble. It does seem a little different than the L3830 though....maybe it's the exhaust system.

Not sure what to do about the mower. It wasnt' cheap ( $2,400). It's a real nice HD Woods unit. If it was a rotary cutter, I'd definitely keep it. I just can't see taking the hoe off to mow once a week. But, I will take your advice and keep it just to see how she works with the 39....Afterall, I'm not going to be excavating forever. Maybe I'll just have some guys come to cut the lawn. With the new road project, I'm really not going to have time to do much else. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What is a "low knee loader"? Ain't never heard dat termnology befur?

If a "Low Knee" loader was upside down it would have high elbows.

Let the overtones roll..... good thing this is TBN and not ADVrider. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It is Spring, after all.

Jim, the TL100 FEL on the L39 is indeed quite capable, maybe more than what you imagine.

This weekend I dug out a huge limerock boulder with the BH and when I went to attempt to scoop it up with the FEL, it was too heavy to lift. However, even with the BH attached, the FEL LIFTED UP THE ENTIRE TRACTOR as high up as you wanted to go!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

This thing is a beast to say the least. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
