I don't know... also don't know how things like Katrina impacts the tracking of donor state status...

Things changed a lot with the closure of numerous military bases too... the SF region was home to massive bases and rework facilities that are all but gone.

California and Texas are similar in standing... there are States at both extremes as Delaware that gets only a 32 cents on the Dollar return and North Dakota which gets a $7.51 return for each dollar collected by the Feds...

What this indicates is Texas is a "taker state". Not new news.

I'm not sure about the metrics or calculations to determine a "giver vs. taker" state, but Texas is also the largest border state, has a coastline and has significant military bases, including Ft. Hood and Lackland AFB. By default it will have a disproportionate amount of federal spending for border security, coastal security, port inspections and military spending compared to many other states.

Delaware's an interesting state. I was reading somewhere that half of all US companies are incorporated as a "Delaware Corporation" due to that states tax laws. My old company did this when they restructured.

Now that's funny. I'm still laughing. I wonder just how much people understand, that without the chemicals made on the Houston Ship Channel and in Texas City, there are no other businesses in the other 49 States. HS

Austin is an anomaly stuck in the middle of Texas. It is just short of Berkley in it's line of thinking and is pretty much 180 degrees in the opposite direction from the rest of the state on every issue.

Could be why so many from California migrate there... at least just about all of those I know... some to retire and others to cash out their California holdings.

A few have very strong ideas that would seem contrary to typical Texas thinking... the biggest one is curbing gun ownership in Austin and Texas... this couple that moved from Berkeley to Austin said they like it well enough except there are too many guns and something needs to be done... and then there are hunters and then segregating recycling... etc.

Just saying people are free to come and go... and ideas travel...

There are Real Estate promoters in the Bay Area that advertise moving to Texas and buying Real Estate like Chevy advertises trucks...

PS... none of them own of have owned tractors of any kind or trucks... most drive Subaru or Honda all wheel drives.
