Kubotas in the low/mid 40hp range

the niche where people need the heavy rear end is limited, at that price point you can buy a really deluxe and really nice to drive L3940 that will do 90% of the same work. Typically the bigger the tractor is the less we sell the basic models... at least in the North East, from what I understand the south is different.

Doesn't it also have a heavier front axle and stronger loader than the L3940 as well as more HP? I do appreciate fully that the L3940 is a very nice tractor and would meet the needs of lots of people. However, if one compares simply the "work" rather than "convenience and deluxe" features between the MX4700 and L3940 it seems the MX has quite an advantage (I'm assuming as you mentioned the 3940 it must cost about the same, I'd order a MX with adjustable 3PT and a couple of rear remotes myself!)

I read the entire thread through. I graduated High school in 1967, but I don't think the English language has changed that much since them, and I WAS a pretty good reader, and my comprehension was good also.
I hope I was wrong in my assessment. The internet, while an excellent source of information for those willing to seperate good information from misinformation, and downright disinformation, still leaves much to be desired in how the written word is perceived. I'm not about to engage in a raging argument over what was said, it's up to each of us to interpret for ourselves.
I'm not a big fan of going to other brand forums and stirring the pot, so generally, if I don't have something nice to say, I just don't say anything at all... Something my parents taught me eons ago.

So, I guess I'll just keep readin', keep my comments to a minimum and keep on drinkin' that (Kubota) orange Kool Aid...

Maybe reading comprehension wasn't a strong suit or maybe it's that Kool Aid....:p

Check out my posts 47, 52, 57 for examples of what I still think is a pretty reasonable point for someone like the OP to consider in comparing Kubota tractors with or without HST+. Doesn't sound to me like I am dissing Kubota tractors or pushing another brand. See Robert in NY's reasonable summary of the point in post 68.

I really am not trying to start a pissing contest. It would be a shame however if only KoolAid drinkers or fanboys were allowed to post thoughts here. Both Neal and Art visit the Kioti forum where we engage in constructive (mostly!) debate on tractor features. As expected there are some people on that forum who object to Kubota dealers hanging out there but I disagree and appreciate their input. It also shows us (the Chevy Orange flavor KoolAid drinkers) what features (few besides HST+) and other considerations (big vs little league dealership network) distinguish Kioti from Kubota in their eyes. I don't see why anyone visiting the Kubota forum would not want to hear similar dissenting opinions or other ideas too.

Found a thorough video explaining Kubota's Grand L HST-Plus transmission:

Intro 0:00 - 2:00
Pedal / Treadle 2:00 - 2:20
Cruise Control 2:20 - 3:05
Cruise usage with independent brakes 3:05 - 3:35 (explanation for people who don't like the right-side brake pedals)
Hydro Dual Speed 3:35 - 4:25
Auto Dual Speed 4:25 - 5:35
Load Sensing (aka Stall Guard) 5:35 - 7:30
HST Response Control 7:38 - 9:30 (adjust from soft/slow HST response thru to fast/quick HST response)
Auto Throttle Advance 9:35 - 11:55 (Ties the HST pedal to the throttle so tractor drives like a car with an automatic transmission; i.e. engine only revs when HST pedal is pushed)

I'm the OP of this tread. My search has moved to a new phase.

How does 14.7% off list inclusive sound for a L4240 HST+Cab?

Sounds like a real good buy to me and I really like the L4240 HSTC. I was in the process of ordering one when a good used L5030 HSTC came available.

I think anything over 12% off is a really good deal.

when i bought my 4240 hst+ earlier this year I think I paid 27,500 for tractor only. with out a cab with a FEL. I added is a LAnd Pride 6 foot mower and a box scrapper. not sure of the end price but i was happy with the deal.

I checked the paperwork..

Tractor with FEL with 72 round back quick attach HD bucket, R1 tires filled. 27850..

Metal Canopy 450

mower was RCR2672 for 2700..

ended up at 31k

it does. gotta remeber that most people buying these things are often weekend warriors and the 10-15% spec difference is not worth giving up the things that make the tractor nice to drive. there are not enough things an MX will do that an L won't. most buyers are not spread sheet comparers like folks here can be so its less a spec issue and more a feature problem. Like I said, we see the sales of the basic models dropping off as size and price point increase.

I drove an L3940 & an MX4700 around the dealer lot & found the MX to be louder, rougher, I guess more utilitarian. This weekend warrior desires smoothnes, quietness & features :) ... so I got the L3940.

(mighta been an MX5100; can't recall now)
