l 185 problem

i have an L 185 skidsteer and i have a problem. it runs and starts fine,but every once in a while it cranks but dont start. when it does this i jump the fuel selonoid with a hot wire from the battery and it starts, take it off and it stalls. checked volts to harness when unplugged fine, but the second the contacts touch on the plug loss of power. btw this is the plug fron the tractor to the seloned. the machine sat for about 1 hour and it started fine for the rest of the day. what the heck is going on please help

I don't know the details of your SS, but I'd bet you have a relay that drives the solenoid and the relay has burned contacts. You can measure voltage, but as soon as the solenoid draws current, the contacts heat up and open. Only when the contacts are making good contact will they be able to supply proper current. I'd look for that relay and replace it.
