Buying Advice L series, what makes it Grand?

According my service manual the system pressure for the L3240 all the way through the L5740 is 17.7MPa or 2560psi. The pump capacity is larger on the L3940 (9.8gal/min) over the L3240/L3540 (31.5gal/min).

Pascal's principle will back me up on this; the larger gal/min will do nothing other than increase speed. The system press being the same, the LA724 loader should lift the same weight on all tractors it is mounted on.

According to page 8-S11 of the workshop manual;
At 2700 rpm with the oil at 45-55deg C. the relief valve setting for a 3240 and a 3540 should be 2480 to 2620 psi.
The 3940, 4240, 4740, 5040, 5240, and 5740 should be 2630 to 2770 psi.

Interesting, and page 8-S9 also confirms what you typed.
Yet, page 1-11 shows the system pressure across the board of 2560psi.
Also, if you pull the part number from the parts manual, the rated pressure on the pump is what I list above.

Interesting. Seems the pumps are rated the same, but the relief valves (what matters) are set differently.

Wow, somebody needs to get over himself. FYI, I (and many other members that I know of) use the "today's posts" button and participate in current discussions without necessarily looking what forum we're in. I don't really care what your thoughts on the matter are, I know there are some topics that I'm able to contribute to, even if I don't happen to own the brand and from some of the comments and feedback that I've received, I know it's appreciated, at least some of the time.

I personally think that the opinions of members who have researched all brands and possibly owned several brands are more important in many discussions than those of somebody who drinks one brands cool aid and considers one brand to be above all others. When you were buying more Kubotas than some States, did you even stop to look at what else you could of bought with that money, or do you just know that Kubota is hands down the best for everything?

When was the term Grand first used for the L series tractors? Was there "non Grand" L series tractor with HST in 1999?

In 1999 most companies that still didn't have a hydro offering at all in the sizes of the L-series. Kubota had worked with wet clutches by then and still many companies did not offer those at all at that time. The B-series did have hydro's and gear transmissions at that time and those manufacturerers that didn't have them in those chassis sizes were quick to get on the band wagon..

Many of the companies were scrambling five years later to catch up with Kubota Grand L design with one of the big options, the heated, air conditioned high visibility cab being available on a tractor that size range.

Sorry James, he can't be talking to you, you're a "wannawaser" having been a Kubota owner, but then again, what do I know, I don't own a Kubota :laughing: Did you know that your new tractor isn't a Kubota, even though it's orange?

Spec's are fine and nobody should have an issue with what is printed by a company. What is often happening is any Kubota post seems to be open an target for some people. That is not what this site is supposed to be about! It is about helping other people get good information for the questions asked. There is always going to be top sellers and there will always be new companies building tractors and machinery. There will always be differences in them, the things that need to be delt with is the heading of the original posters. Not that "I can buy a kioti for less"! Sometimes it's interesting to see where people post the most and what they post!!!

Well I wasn't sure what he meant by that comment, I am a 2 time Kubota owner and only a 1 time "other orange" owner. And as you mentioned I don't pay any attention as to what "forum" I am in, if I can help someone understand something better I try to do that. And If I make mistakes and someone points them out, I am good with that too. What I don't understand is this stupid (to me) brand loyalty. I would be happy to own another Kubota, or any other brand, as long as it offered the features and capability's I needed at the price I could afford. As for color, I am still using the Kubota 2 orange paint for touch up paint on the New Kioti, and even "close up" it appears to match well
