Hi all

My L2250 has a couple of small leaks in the front axle seal and swivel hub area.

On remobing the dipstick to check the diff oil level, there was a load "whoosh" of air so I assuming the diff is not breathing.

I can't find a breather on the diff housing at all.

Could the diff breathe somehow through the tube underneath where the driveshaft enters and then up through the main gearbox?

Any idea where to look? I suspect if I can get the diff to breathe my leaks might slow down.

Cheers

I looked at an exploded diagram of the differential housing, and couldn't see anything that looked like a breather. You could drill a small hole (1/16") down through the top of the dipstick to vent the differential housing. In my tractor, this is made of plastic

Thanks

We thought of installing a breather in the dipstick but there's too much metal in the way.

Yes maybe a tiny hole but would it let dust in?

Nothing in your diagrams to indicate the diff breathes (or is therefore not sealed) at the rear where the drive shaft seems to be housed in a tube?

My 2550 had no breather as well. I tapped the plug with a 1/4 " pipe thread then put in a hose barb fitting, ran a hose through a filter and into the engine compartment.
