Price Check L225DT with FEL and backhoe Price Check/Buying Advice

There is a 1978 Kubota L225DT with loader and backhoe, diesel 24 hp engine 1481 hours on it for sale about 3 hours from me. The guy is asking $8,500. Looking for a little compact tractor, was originally looking at getting a new Kioti DS3510 with FEL and hoe, but that would be around $25k OTD, I could get this and be paid for cash....

Anyways, back on topic, just going to be used for ranch chores (moving fire wood, digging out the occasional stump, digging trench for water line, moving dirt around, ect.

Is this a good price or a little high? Any inherent problems with these? It has new tires, new hoses on the backhoe, paint is original and faded, and all the rams have been repacked. Original owner, man is in his 70's and has been using it around his ranch since new. Only reason he is selling he he bought a brand new Grand L40... Looking for advice before potentially dropping my hard earned coin on this. Thanks.

The price may be about right if the BH and loader are all there with tight pins, bushings and the hydraulics are strong. Sometimes a guy in his 70's just wants to pamper himself with a newer (or bigger) tractor even though there was nothing wrong with the old one. But sometimes when somebody owns a tractor a long time he knows when it's time to get rid of it. The trick is figuring out which situation this is. A barn-kept 1400 tractor is still pretty fresh. These were well-made and they last a long time. Tires and rims are getting hard to match up on older machines - but unless it needs them now it shouldn't affect price that much.

That just seems like a lot of money for such an old machine. I think I would look for something newer with a loader for a just a few thousand more.

Last fall I bought a B2920 with LA364 fel for $13,500. It had 26 hours on it. The machine never sat outside and was like brand new. The original owner bought it in fall of '11.

$8500 was probably as much as the L225 went for new!

Ya, I know the tractor was only around $4k new, but didnt know what the FEL and backhoe would have run. I know a Woods or Kubota hoe goes for about 6-8k, new obviously, but havent seen many used ones at all for sale....

I hear ya. Nice used equipment is very difficult to find even somewhat locally.

Does a 3pt come with? Don't forget, parts, wiring, hoses, seals ect do die from old age.

Offer him 6K, and go from there.

A L3430 HST jsut popped up on Craigslist. About 3 hours from me as well. 4-in-1 bucket, top-n-tilt kit for the 3pt, and a Woods Groundbreaker 9000 backhoe on it, its got some high hours on it though (3,500). The guys is asking $13,500.....
