Howdy. I have just started using a brush hog with my L2350 and I noticed a clicking noise when the PTO is winding down. It doesnt happen under power. If I turn the shaft with the pto engaged (engine off) you can definately feel it. Is this normal? Shaft is tight and the tractor is still pretty new at 400hrs. Thanks for your help.

I believe that it's the overide clutch internal on your PTO drive. It's basically to keep the implement( ie. brush cutter) from driving your tractor. Talk to someone who has brush hogged on an old 9N and they can tell you what happens with out the over ride clutch!! Ther are lots of scary stories from them!

Mine makes the same clicking sound, as stated, I attribute it to the over-running clutch design and figured it to be normal.

Thanks for your replies. It is definitely a metallic tapping sound. Brush cutting is fun but I can certainly see the potential to damage your tractor in a hurry. Here in the Hill country there are plenty of rocks etc. under the grass if you aren't careful.

A large bush hog is like a large flywheel. Without an overrunning clutch it will continue to drive you forward as it spins down. I once had a Ford NAA that you had to add one in the drive line or you were in trouble.
