I think I've narrowed my no start problem down to the starter. When I remove the starter and hook it up to battery charger on the bench, the solenoid will kick in with a 10 Amp source but the starter doesn't turn. If I kick up the source to 50 Amps, the solenoid kicks in and the starter turns but sluggishly. I've decided this means a new starter because of an internal short in windings.

But before I put out the bucks for the new starter, I'd like to hear if someone disagrees. While troubleshooting I was driven crazy by a situation that I can't explain. If I hook up everything and turn the switch to ON I get the normal oil and charge lights. When I go to start, everything shuts down - no power. If I turn off the switch and turn it back to ON I get nothing - not even the oil and charge lights. I discovered by accident that if I disconnect the battery and reconnect it, everything seems to reset so I get the oil and charge lights again in the ON position. But again if I go to start, everything shuts down.
I can find nothing in the schematic in that circuit that would act as an overload switch that would be reset by disconnection the battery.

Bring it to a decent auto parts store and have them test it. Most places that can do it, do it for free.

The fix ios to unbolt the battery ground cable at the tractor frame, clean it really well and reconnect it. Worked for me.
