Just bought my way into the 'bota family today. She's an '82 L245DT with 924 hrs. on her. Motor is great condition but it's been kept outside. Needless to say pretty weathered and well worked (rust, bucket bad shape, no seat to speak of, ext...). I did test drive her and all is well. The asking price was $6995.00 with FEL, 60" Ford rotary mower & 60" box scraper. I talked them down to $6000.00 and delivered (about an hour and a half drive).
My question would be 1. How did I do? 2. Online parts availability? 3. Restortation parts (i.e. paint, fenders, hood, decals)
I did find a site for all the manuals for this model which I will get immediately. Figured I would work her through summer then come winter I will garage her and give her some TLC.
Any replys or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

By the sounds you did okay on the deal.
TractorSmart.com one place for online shopping, and if you visit your local Kubota dealer maybe he could help or point you to a better site.

Enjoy your new tractor.

Yep given your exchange rate and the fact that things over there seem dearer than here, you did OK.

They would be about $8000 here which is $4000 US.

Things are dearer as I say (Looks like about 50%) so is $6000.

Spot on !

Cheers

$6000 delivered with those implements is not a bad deal. Now back to reality. 925 hours is a good number about 50 hours per year. My rule of thumb when buying is no more than 100 per year if the owner does not know anything about the tractor. All the rust and faded paint is typical. Almost none of the sheet metal is available any longer. Most of the mechanicals are. Everything is very expensive. Check Tractor Smart for a parts manual and buy online from them. Check West Kentucky Tractor Salvage for sheet metal. Bet you need both rear fenders they are rotted at the top of the base mount. $200 each for decent used ones you'll have to clean. Most salvage yard prices for these old tractors exceed their original new price. Good running tractor, starts hard cold (under 50), NEVER USE ETHER you'll burn the pistons ($1600 min) use the decompression button and your glow plugs. Check your fluids and filters, change yearly for sure. Using UTD in the transmission makes the 3ph slow, need to rev it up some to lift anything. Idle down before you shift gears or you will blow the crash box, mainshaft is $1500 just for the part. Great tractor, had one for along time. ric

Yes those silly mounts the rear fenders trap all sorts of mud and grass and water and rust would be inevitable I'd say.

Mine is a gem with no rust anywhere. Had my seat recovered and looks like new now. Has been repainted and they did such a good job. Removed all the fittings so the earths for lights etc. don't work well !

Cheers

Thanks for the info guys. The tractor (which my kids have named ''Scoop'') has been alot of fun and serving its purpose well. Have found some minor problems (hydrolic pump leaks, one seal leaks, radiator hose leaks) but nothing that would stop this work horse. Although I did run it out of fuel already. Thanks to this great site (been signing on and researching for months) I recalled a couple of discussions about that no-no! Knowing nothing about diesels, I did what I read about bleeding the lines. It worked!!!!! Thanks TBN! I really thought I wanted a new tractor with all the bells and whistles, but have since figured with a new I would probably baby it (scatches), but with''Scoop'' I don't give it a second thought. We just blaze along and get the tasks done. Thanks Again.

Congratulations on your new/used l245dt! I bought mine last year (it's a 79') and have really enjoyed it.
I replaced a bearing and a bushing and a couple of seals in the front end without any trouble at all.
It squeels when I use the front end loader though it works fine. I grade my long driveway w/ a back blade going up hill and never lack power.l
I wonder if anyone knows why my battery dies when I use the headlights and warning lights?

Have you check all the wiring, for it sounds like you have a real good dead short.
How old is the battery, for maybe its gone be on the life span and time to replace.
