L2800 lift shudders

I have noticed this on my L2800DT, and I asked my dealer about it. He told me to turn the 3pt adjust knob under the seat clockwise until it was closed, and then raise and lower the 3pt a few times. Then turn the knob counter-clockwise until it stops, then clockwise for 1 1/2 turns. He said the problem MAY be air in the system. I tried it and it did help. Also, I don't have HST--mine is a gear tranny--and the HST may be involved in this problem.

I just talked to my dealer and the new valve is still not in yet. They have the rear remote installed. I don't want to wait any longer so I told them to bring my tractor back. I'll do the valve at the 50 hour. I am also very concerned about changing the HST performance. My dealer said that the valve may not be the final fix anyway. If there are enough complaints then Kubota will come out with a permanent fix. I use the 1910 for grading anyway and the lift on that is silky smooth. I will keep monitoring this subject. It is good to hear from all of you about this issue. I'd like to get mine fixed eventually. Other than this issue I love the machine. Please keep us all posted. I will also post what I can learn from my dealer.

My dealer called and said the valve arrived. I told him we could do it at the 50 hour but he wants to pick the tractor up Tuesday. He said they want to put this problem to bed and they want to be sure the new valve fixes the problem. I am going to drive it at the dealer and make sure the HST still performs OK. If not, the old valve goes back in.

My L3400 is driving me crazy with the 3 pt. shudder. Today I put on my new post hole auger with a 9" bit. It is very difficult to use because when you go to raise it out of the hole it shakes so bad that most of the dirt falls off the bit and back into the hole. Very frustrating. Right now I am not a happy Kubota owner. Still have not heard from my dealer about the valve. Been over two weeks. Does anyone know how much more money a L3430 is? I only have 4 hours on my machine but something has got to happen. Very frustrated. Brian

I went ahead and got the L2800 hydro, really nice machine.
Hydro seems to be a heavier machine and the shudder is not that bad. Still somewhat annoying though.

I'd love to try my 5' RFM on your machine. Somebody posted that they think the hydro takes too much power from the PTO. I think he had some other problem, maybe with his motor.
Gears are cool, but after a long day, hydro might be less work. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Put my post hole digger, with 9" auger on my L2800HST today - was curious about the shudder issue...
For me, putting the digger on was the hard part! Its heavy! Instruction "manual" pretty skimpy, so I attached the boom to the wrong top point first, saw the problem once everything was together, moved the boom hitch, looked much better!
The shudder really wasn't a problem, I discovered that if you engage the clutch (stopping the PTO) just as you raise the auger out of the hole, it doesn't shudder [mutch]. I'm not saying I wouldn't be happy if there was no shudder /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I dug about 30 holes - very happy! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Much easier than digging by hand! I still can't believe this is legal - its way too much fun!

Hope everyone had a safe Independence Day!

Familyman: I have a hard time imagining that the 2800HST would have trouble with a 5' finish mower unless it is really long wet grass. I have a 3400HST and it does not even grunt in the heavy stuff with a 5' brush hog. It is 5 hp more than the 2800 at the PTO. According to the 3400 spec. the HST is 1.5 HP less than the gear version. Using an HST some people might find themselves mowing faster than with a gear machine. I have that tendancy.

Its not really a power or weight thing. My 5' cutter on the hydro chows down on anything I feed it. Without the implement, the lift goes up and down smooth. Low RPM, the lift, including implement goes up and down smooth. Crank up the RPM, raising a box blade or getting that cutter at the right height has a tendency to jolt the entire machine. I didn't notice that on a JD 790 I tried.

I've been to a couple of different dealers and pretty much they say thats just how the L series pumps are. They also say its a highly reliable machine and shouldn't expect any problems out of it for many years to come.

Picture shows how the yard dwarfs the tractor!
