Anyone using an L2800 for finish mowing (6 acres) and other chores around the house. Just wondering how much not having a live PTO affects it? I'm thinking of buying one but everyone is saying that it wouldn't be a good choice for mowing except the dealer. Please help - looking to make a purchase on Monday. Thanks.

Tim you should have no problems mowing I have the baby version L2350 24 or 25 hp and it does a great job for me. my 3ph mower is a woods rm660 & 3ph 63" ber-vac snowblower have no problem's at all with the single clutch. The L2800 is a very nice unit a lot more comfort and iron then my L2350. I wish mine had the shuttle shift .
Good luck with your purchase!!

I ran a Befco RFM behind a Deere 670 with a single stage clutch. When you depress the clutch, the PTO stops too.

Nothing wrong with this set up..might have to do a bit more backing up to hit the areas you missed when clutching. It's just a matter of adaptation.

My new tractor, a Deere 790, has a dual stage clutch. I believe this is, at least, optional on the L2800. The dual stage works nice when mowing. There is a short learning curve to get the hang of it.

So, those folks telling you that 2800 isn't a good machine to mow with probably haven't ever operated a gear tractor.

If you go for this machine...don't ride the clutch. That'll wear it out fairly quickly. Dual stages clutches (for Deere, anyway) cost about $1500 to replace.

i finish mow about 8 acres on my new L2800 and have never had any problems or regrets getting the 2800 with the single clutch.they only offer the dual clutch on the 3400 and up and is not an option on the 2800.like everyone says the dual clutch might keep you from having to back up a few times but thats part of the fun on the tractor.the 2800 will do most of what you will probably do around the house with no fuss and $ in your pocket.

I use my L2800 to mow 11 acres and haven't had any problem with it--except for the 2 flat tires I got from thorns! I was concerned about not having a "live" PTO, but it has not bothered me at all. The L2800 is a nice machine, and will get the job(s) done just as well as those tractors costing a LOT more. Good luck, and be sure to post pictures when you buy your new tractor!
