Bradco Mount on NH

Of the three, JD, Woods, and Bradco... Bradco appears to be the easiest to attach. Bradco steel mounts are the best of these three as well.

Can the L3010 use the woods 9000 BH? It's bigger than the 7500, as the number implies. I know it can be used on an L3710. I'd get the bigger hoe if you can.

A bigger hoe? I understand the sentiment to go bigger, better and more powerful. Going larger seems to be the consensus in many of the discussions. But, at some point, I've got to reign in my mechanical appetites for the sake of my pocketbook. I have reached the outer limits of my budget. Still, the bigger, better, more powerful impulse emerges in the form of the question: do I forsake the backhoe altogether and apply the money to an even larger tractor; say, an L4610? I'm considering the trade-off... Any insights/opinions?

By the way, JohnMiller3; again, nice pics...

JohnMiller3:

A question regarding one of the pictures of the L3010 that you posted in 8/15/01. The FEL bucket appears to be larger than what I saw on the L3010 at the dealers; (although, in the pic, it is only visible from the rear). Do you know if it is the standard FEL that comes with the L3010? If not, do you know what it is and if it is, in fact, larger? In looking at the L3010, the capacity/volume of the bucket on the FEL seemed inadequate.

Check out Capital Agway Kubota in Troy NY I am sure they service your area and last spring they had a better price then what you are getting.

Actually, Kelago, you havent told us what you plan to do with your tractor, so we're probably not in the best position to advise you on what kind of hoe you need or even if you need one. If you go bigger, I think the Bradco 509 or 609 is a better hoe than the Woods 9000.

As to whether you need a bigger tractor, I cant say for the same lack of information. Myself, I'm not a fan of the 3010. I think it is underpowered for its size and weight. If I were to buy a Grand L, I would get the 3710--more power and hydraulics. If I wanted more power than that, I would go to an L48. That's in Kubota. I think you should seriously look at the JD 4300 and 4400 for your size property. They have great hoes that attach/detach much more easily than anything we have been talking about, and have heavier hydraulics than a 3010.

As Glen stated above you need to give the group a fighting chance by detailing out what you expect to accomplish with this machine and in what kind of time frame. Many times you will find that many of us (I am a big fan) rent specialty items like hoes. I have a 3010 with a 4690A hoe and I still will be renting a hoe in a couple of weeks. I have numerous small on going jobs at home that are expedited by my having a hoe, but when I get into a large project I still rent for a number of reasons:
1) Larger, digs deeper, moves more dirt

2) Larger, what would be serious wear and tear on mine is average usage for a large rental

3) Larger, Much faster, some jobs need to be completed in a small time frame

Having the small hoe allows me to do a lot of prep work so that when I do rent I can maximize my time.

Please let us know what you have planned then myself and others on the forum (mostly others ) will supply their expertise to help you make the right choices the first time.

glennmac & BruceW:

Actually, I have described what I intend to do with the tractor
(in another thread). Here is what I wrote:

Hello Everyone:
I just discovered this site last week and would like to request some advice, so here goes: I have 17 acres, 12 of which is comprised of open fields surrounded by hundreds of yards of stone walls. As anyone who lives in rural (southern) New England can tell you, we have a lot of invasive, non-native shrubs and vines that collect around stone walls, i.e., multi-florosa, honeysuckle shrub, wild grape vines, and, of course, the relentless oriental bittersweet, among others. This stuff is thick, entangled and extends about 20 -30 feet into the fields from either side of the walls. Left alone, this junk will eventually smother the fields. Some of the vines (bittersweet) and shrubs (honeysuckle) can have 3 -5 inch diameters.
I need to rip this stuff out; (using a chain and the hydraulics
of the front end loader). In addition, I plan to build a new hundred yard long stone wall, as well as repair much of the existing stone walls; so I’ll be hauling a lot of stone. I’ll be doing some grading and other light earth moving, as well as hauling around cow manure, loam and mulch. I’ll also be clearing a 200 foot driveway of snow, but will not be doing any mowing. I am sure, as the years go by, I’ll discover other uses for the tractor, but this is it as far as being able to pre-determine what I will do. I believe I’ll need a heavy duty FEL with a toothbar, as well as a backhoe; (they’ll be a number of stumps to rip out). The last thing I want is to be underpowered. Any suggestions regarding model and implements?
Thank you

Kelago,

I read your use "profile" and I have a suggestion, why not skip buying the back hoe and just rent one when you need it?

My neighbor across the street rented a Cat 416C Tractor with a 1.75 cubic yard FEL bucket, and a back hoe with about a 1/3 yard bucket. The FEL was marked as to volume, the BH wasn't, so I am guessing. The fact that it was turbo charged was not as nice as the rental price he paid. Under $700 for 24 clock hours over the time span of 1 week. Delivery included. I bet you could yank out darn near every tree on your property before you reached the purchase price of your own BH with that rig!

Your rental rates may be higher, but it is a point to consider.

John Bud:

Thanks. You make a good case for renting. My primary reason for wanting to own is gaining the ability to finish off an area and moving on to the next without leaving work undone until I have enough work to justify renting a backhoe. And because this work is going to take months, not having a backhoe would mean a lot of the work would remain incomplete for a long time. Nonetheless, I am taking everyone's suggestions to heart and re-considering as I go along; for instance, today, at glennmac's suggestion, I'm off to see and learn about the JD 4300.
